Pompey on top 2nd half. Coverage on Talk Sport as featured match.
Curtis on for Hirst.
Being blunt about it - this is feckin' sheiiiite. No skill anywhere in the outfield play. Lets just FFWD to the summer please.
Williams on....
oh good. Are we playing for a draw?
0-0 No Cutting edge upfront!
Christ!! This is the worst I've seen for a long time.
Carter MOTM by a country mile, Walker better second half, Bazunu faultless, Morrell everywhere but still below par, Romeo very good at times and very poor at times, Thompson OK, Raggett/Ogivlie solid, Brown tried hard but lacks pace and skill now, Hirst average, Jacobs OK when he came on, Williams ditto. Curtis a couple of good moves, but stick him on the wing for heavens sake.
Jacobs is our only consistently creative player. DC should be starting him on the left ahead of brown & Hackett. Madness.
No creativity whatsoever. Brown was a waste of space. In fact Cowley is a waste of air.
It’ll be interesting to see how Cowley polishes this particular turd of a performance.  No doubt ‘honest’ and ‘humble’ will make an appearance at some point.  He likes those words does Danny.
We've had the excuses... needs time to lose the leftovers from Jackett.. needs time to gel... needs another transfer window.. now I guess it's need time for the 2 new players to blend in. Christ is this new striker as bad as Marquis?
If we had really wanted to win that game Curtis would have started instead of Brown, instead it was the Cowley ‘we will set up not to lose and hope to get something on the break’…..it’s one of the key reasons why only the bottom 3 and Shrewsbury have scored less goals than us.

Just think 29 goals from 25 games !

Yawn, yawn , yawn
The players are decent. It's the set up and mind set. We need a proper manager.
Two new signings but the same old same old !

Walker with 45 minutes of education as to why Pompey’s strikers struggle to get goals. Not a single shot on target in 48 minutes.

We are playing relegation strugglers but have hardly troubled them, c’mon Cowley, get your own and the team’s collective finger out and let’s see 45 minutes of the exciting football you keep promising us.

Do we have to be so defensive with Brown in for Curtis ? Why can’t midfield create anything ? Any chance of us going for the win rather than just holding on and hoping for something on the break ? Are you sure you know what your doing ?

Talk about giving the lad a chance!
The Cowleys are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. If they hadn’t played Walker last night, people would be moaning why they hadn’t. Moaning about Brown, but Brown only played because Recco’s injured and in any case Recco is pretty crap at left wing back.

Yes it is frustrating at the moment but I think we’re getting there and I believe we’ll get two more in ( not loans) before the TW shuts. PUP

I was asking the question based on reports that he was missing in action and ran slower than his father could even now. Given DC's record on strikers it is worth asking the question.
Brown is ten times the player Reeco will ever be and the best thing about Pompey in recent times is the link up between LB and Curtis so bewildering that he chose to bring in Brown and drop Curtis.

Had Curtis been playing on the left he might have played them both, but with Curtis playing in the middle there would have been little opportunity for them to combine like they usually do.
Team selection shouldn't be too much of challenge on Saturday providing we go up there in a positive frame of mind and 'go for it'.
Hackett is injured, which could prove to be a bit of a bonus, and Thompson shouldn't really be starting games and should be on the bench.
Start the game with our best players going forward in Harness, Curtis and Jacobs with Harness and Curtis in behind Hirst or Walker. It might be time to go for a conventional back four (Romeo, Carter, Raggett and Ogilvie) giving you a three in the middle of the park of Morrell, Jacobs and possibly Williams.
Simples.
Curtis shouldn’t be played in the middle ! He’s not a striker !

Play him either as a straight out left winger or as an attacking left wing back, he started well with us playing out wide but all the p*ssing around playing him anywhere other than where he is best is a nonsense.

Cowley prefers Brown because Cowley has a defensive mind-set and Brown fits the bill, result of this mind set:

Pompey      29 goals from 25 games Position 9th on 38 points
Wycombe   44 goals from 27 games Position 1st on 52 points
Wigan        44 goals from 23 games Position 2nd on 51 points
Sunderland 52 goals from 27 games Position 3rd on 51 points
Rotherham  50 goals from 25 games Position 4th on 50 points

FYI
Of the above only Sunderland (29,992) have a better average gate than Pompey (15,132), the other three sides Wycombe (5,558), Wigan (9,332) and Rotherham (9,273) have nowhere near our gate income…….but it is Pompey who are left struggling to make the play- offs.

I'd agree Curtis is better out wide on the left than as a central striker but we would have to go back to 4231 or 442 to play him there, He has never played wing back, and I think he would be even more unsuited to it than Hackett is.  He simply does not have the defensive mindset or discipline, and can't tackle.

Personally, unless we sign a left wing back I think we should go back to a back four because we just don't have anyone that can play there.  Brown is not fit enough for the amount of running involved, Hackett does his best but isn't really good enough, and there is no-one else that can play there.
Agreed. I’d put a back four from Carter, Raggers, Robertson, Ogilvie and Brown. Looks pretty strong to me.
