Why the f did we / will we not do this North Stand work in the close season?????
Because it's too big a job for that. Half of it is being done now, and the other half is going to be done after the season ends. At least that's what the club said.
Because the work is a reaction to the clamp down on safety standards at stadia, rather than a proactive plan by PFC to expand capacity.
and part of a long term plan (we've NEVER had one of those before) to allow the top half of the North Stand to be rebuilt.
apart from the short term addition of an extra 600 seats and avoiding any further reduction in capacity due to existing pinch points in emergency evacuation and panic.

The north stand lower guys are going to seriously miss that leg room they enjoyed. They aren't going to happy!

Agreed ... and I'm one of them. Best seats for legroom in the country.  But it's not just the leg room  it's the space for people to walk through. Hopefully they wil not be as tight as some grounds.

I originally thought it was a shame they did not do all this during Covid when there were no crowds, but Pedalo is right that the H&S requirements were not there then.

But obviously they would not have done it this way had it been possible to do it all in the close season.
