Always thought they should be for non-swimmers rather than footballers.......... apart from that infamous Pompey v Leicester match!
See the virtue signallers of the corporate BLM/LGBT/woke 'movement' have capitulated because now there is a 'cost' (nothing massive but too much for the shallow).

When there's a cost to an action we can see who really means it compared to those who are just 'doing the latest corporate thing'.
The cost was a possible yellow card or sending off, hence not wearing them.
And there was me, thinking FIFA & Eufa stood for inclusion & respect regarding the beautiful game, so what's changed from pep splatters regime to the new slaphead infantchildish? nowt! as ultimate power corrupts!
Who gives a fuck, it’s supposed to be about football.
Don't worry, by the time Lineker and Co have finished you'll think that virtue signaling was an Olympic sport.

What would they do if the whole of both teams wore them ? Sending them all off would finish the tournament off for good.

England v Wales would be a a good game to arrange it for.
Who gives a shit about a fucking arm band, it will change nothing. Just like taking the knee.
They talked about cards for the captain, Deep.
It just goes to show how sanctimonious and shallow all this fake outrage is. All this crap about wearing armbands, if you support a cause, then you support a cause. As soon as it was clear that the players would be punished for their jesture, all the support went down the shitter. The players are there to play football, not politics, they should put up or shut up.

If it was about football, it would never be in that cesspit.

The armband was so lame anyway, but why the feck they are still taken the knee rubbish is just ridiculous.
Seminal moment in the culture of British virtual signalling today methinks.
What a contrast between the feeble, spineless cave-in by the English and Welsh FAs to the gutsy message from the Iranian team and fans who, no doubt, will now be facing more than a yellow card when they go home.

Well said, the Iranian team are very brave. The Iranian regime are unlikely to let this go with just a yellow or red card.
All this armband stuff yet we accept half of the world population being discriminated against in far too many places simply for being born female. Including this country.
What can we do to change it? Even if the World Cup was boycotted it wouldn't change, it's indoctrinated in their culture and has been for centuries.

Apartheid was part of South Africa's culture for centuries, and in America.

Changing it needed protests from ordinary people, and political pressure , and sporting boycotts.

Good job people didn't just shrug their shoulders and say 'what can we do to change it' then.  Doing something, even as minor as wearing armbands, is better than doing nothing. Doing nothing is  supporting it.

FIFA are shamelessly doing whatever the Qataris tell them to, so all countries in FIFA can do something about that at least and put pressure on them.  I read yesterday that Denmark are trying to persuade a group of countries, including England, to leave FIFA and start an alternative organisation. That  would be a great start.
Hypocrisy alive and well, more frightened of being caught alone with women….

Putting that to one side the focus should have been on FIFA corruption. Once again a bunch of conmen get away with hoovering up shedloads of cash.

Yep, FIFA a busted flush. It started under Havelange and got progressively worse.

I think it would be brilliant if major football nations abandoned FIFA. I hope England do but I doubt the FA would have the balls.
Denmark are thinking about leaving FIFA and starting a breakaway association for countries who believe in football for all. It would then be up to those countries who oppose women playing or spectating and those countries that oppose LGBTQ+ rights to either adapt or be excluded. Hopefully it would/could/should result in keeping politics out of football. TBH a major shake up is needed and long overdue with FIFA.

There would be so many boxes to tick it would never get off the ground. You’d have to have a black manager, a trans defender, a lesbian coach, a blind goalkeeper and more pregame virtual signaling than game time.
Personally I think there will be fallout from this world cup . Either a massive shake up within FiFa or as the Danes have suggested a new breakaway organisation. It's happened in other sports.
sad how the players have been so easily persuaded to do nothing.
If they had all worn them and refused to play without them the organisers could either call it off or put up with it.
