Just out of interest and wondering whether the popular call by many, for 2 strikers carried any weight, i went through our games and results;

Marquis lone striker  - 7 league games - Avg Pts per game 1.57 - Avg team Goals per game 1.29
Marquis / Harness - 5 league games - Avg Pts per game 1.40 - Avg team Goals per game 1.40
Marquis / Williams - 9 league games - Avg Pts per game 1.78 - Avg team Goals per game 1.44
Harrison lone striker - 3 league games - Avg Pts per game 2.00 - Avg team Goals per game 2.00
Marquis / Harrison - 4 league games - Avg Pts per game 2.00 - Avg team Goals per game 2.50

A few things sprang to mind. Firstly that we never kept the same striking partnership for more than 3 games in a row. Secondly that 5 combinations in 28 games (potentially the 6th tonight if Curtis plays up front) is too many to develop good partnerships. Finally, why has Marquis and Harrison been tried so few times, when it appears to be our most successful combo? The opposition were Crewe, Oxford, Plymouth & Charlton respectively.

All for two strikers so long as they get a good supply and the midfield is on top of their game and following up.

Interesting stats. Quite right to question too many combos and also why Marquis and Harrison rarely put together.

Very interesting stats, thanks for putting those together.
Harrison is maybe one of those attackers who does a lot of work that goes unnoticed by everyone except the defenders he draws out of position for someone else to sneak in.

So is today another new combination? Harrison and Curtis?

The reason Marquis and Harrison rarely play up front is down to maths.
Harrison = shite
Marquis = shite
Marquis x Harrison = shite squared

Great cross from imho our best player over the last few games. Great finish. Don't sit back. Up to Oxford now. Let’s see what they are made of.

Think the goal distribution in our League 2 champions side has been forgotten.

I'd like to see Harrison - Hiwula Combo given a go.

Harrison being positive can hold up the ball & also good in the air with flick ons.

Hiwula, has pace unpredictable ideal against defenders & can finish given the ammunition.

Nothing to lose here.

Marquis looks better coming on as a sub in the Oxford game.

Hiwula and Harrison affect the positional play of the opposition's back line.

Marquis doesn't - he is too busy in midfield with three Pompey players in front of him, pouting his cheeks and pointing his finger.
