What an awful TV deal negotiated by the EFL clubs with Sky....... from a fans perspective!

248 out of 552 matches to be televised in leagues one and two

328 championship games to be screened!

All involving a change of kick off times and/or dates!

Unanimously approved by the 72 EFL clubs

No consultation with the people who matter......... us, the match going fans!

Two Fingers to Real Fans!!
Sorry you’re gonna have to tell me what your issue is with it.
Am effing fuming about this!

Roughly half our games will be at stupid times - Saturday lunchtimes, Sunday, Monday nights etc. Not great when every home games is a 7 hour round trip for me!

Where's the benefit? Most of the extra money will be split between the agents and the players, leaving the club no better off financially.

This is an abject surrender to Sky TV.

Not sure how it means half our games will be moved?

I don’t think all 72 clubs would have agreed to it if they didn’t see themselves being better off financially.
248 out of 552 games moved in both leagues 1 and 2 so almost half

328 games out of 552 in the Championship so well over half.

Cannot believe that any regular match-goers can be happy with that!
Being on the island, not sure if it'll work out good or bad, because season ticket already problematic with evening games and ferry times etc - earlier kick offs and Sunday matches might work out better (for instance, noon v Wycombe handy this week), but we're the minority, and I can see how it'll be a pig for others, and totally understand that.

I'm happy about the TV games though (if we're still in L1) because even the National League has been better covered.
Surely all midweek games will be shown live means that KO won’t change?

All opening, last day and bank holiday games won’t be moved.
Irrespective of the hassle for fans, the financial benefits for clubs are negligible.

The EFL website (link from Pompey FC website) states that clubs in league one and two will be 25% better off and in the championship 46% better off.

Let's assume the current inflation rate of 10% drops and averages 4% over the next 6 years to 2029. That would put prices up by 27%, implying clubs in leagues one and two under the new deal would be worse off than now.
Years ago, Alan Sugar (after running Spurs) stated that the games might as well be given away for nothing as the clubs saw nothing of it. It all goes virtually direct to the agents and players.
Have we forgotten the nightmare of trying to get to games in the Prem when kickoffs were changed for about half of our games. I, for one, gave up my ST at that stage. Twice the price and could not do large numbers of games.
Must admit to being a 3pm Saturday afternoon dinosaur. I hate it when games get moved to midweek . Parking is a mega issue in Pompey. On a Saturday the trains are great but trying to get back midweek on the train unless I leave early I don’t get home to Havant until 2330 ( 1130pm for you non 24 hr clockers).
It’s all about money and nothing about fans needs. Football is commercialised and there’s no going back.
If we had a proper reserve league, playing Saturdays at 3pm, then I'd seriously consider ditching watching first team football and instead follow the reserves home and away!
I can’t imagine 3pm was ever selected because it was the optimal time for fans, you’re just used to it.

Personally earlier the better on a Saturday for me these days.

I find it hard to believe Sky, the EFL and all the clubs are negotiating with the players and agents pockets as the priority.

A lot has changed since Alan Sugar left Spurs.

3pm is perfect for meeting up in the pub before the match, long may it continue.  You need time to have a few unhurried pints before watching Pompey ffs.  Big Grin

Didn't pubs shut after lunch and reopen at 6pm years ago? Therefore 3pm made sense.
ifollow will disappear so if you want to watch away games you can't get to you'll need a Sky subscription.
It’s the season after next, right?

Or some sort of streaming service which costs you a year what Sky Sports charge each month ?

People generally worked Saturday mornings and clubs in mining areas kicked off at 3.15pm to allow the clean up after work to happen.

Football stopped caring about fans years ago
According to the article the clubs were shown the details of the Sky deal on Friday morning and voted it through unanimously.
Lots of scrutiny then.

Yes, I noticed that too... very strange. A multi million pound deal spanning 5 years affecting all EFL clubs agreed unanimously within a few hours! Trevor Birch likes it though.
All they looked at was the money, that's all they care about.
Why else would teams turn out in a range of Nike leisure wear rather than their proper colours?

All the more reason to somehow get out of this dreadful division. 7 years is far too long. No more excuses.

But presumably in pre-floodlight days Saturday games must have started at 2 or 2.15 so as not to finish in darkness.  Or was there a spring/autumn kick-off time and a winter one? Another change, which I don't much like, is that evening kick-offs are now always at 7.45 or 8.  I assume this happened at the request/demand of TV companies or has something to do with European competitions (which makes it an hour later in most of Europe).  But when I started watching Pompey, it was usually 7.15, or 7.30 latest.  Does anyone have any idea why this changed? Or does anyone know how they fitted in all the fixtures without evening kick-offs?
