In 50 years of watching Pompey, I cannot recall a ref as inept as that idiot yesterday! It wasn't just one incident, it was continuous!
We've seen some howlers over the years - remember Challis from the 70s when fans used to sing "We hate Challis" even when he wasn't reffing us! Then there was the clown who gave Ormondroyd's goal in the play-offs when he was 10 yards offside, the git who gave the penalty at Highbury after the Pires dive and loads of others who made appalling decisions.
However, yesterday's ref was dreadful throughout the match. Random decisions for free-kicks for both sides, failed to clamp down on the Stevenage bench when they took out one of our players and clueless when it came to the double red card!
For 20+ minutes in that second half, our fans sang a non-stop chorus of anti-ref songs - never ever heard such a prolonged abuse of a ref before! Guess the frustration was partly explained by our poor performance, but had it been in the 70s or 80s, the ref would have been pelted by missiles and probably assaulted by a pitch invader or ten!
Still, he did do one thing right - slipped over and got injured! Just wish he'd done that in the pre-match warm up!
