No comment on his death?

I remember him playing in the mid seventies. I was still at school and his approach seemed to be, if in doubt, put it out, which worked quite well at the time.

Never nice to hear off a death but his motto was if in doubt kick someone.

The game I remember him for was a cup game at brum, he was marking a teenage wonder kid named Trevor Francis and boy did he mark him - literally. The amazing thing was it took the ref about 70 minutes before sending Cahill off. The brum crowd were seething and getting back to new street one of the scariest experiences of my life. Thousands of them pored out of their side (they didn't have an end then). We were in the railway end and the mob were overturning cars and blood was shed. We jumped on a bus and stared straight ahead, not wishing to attract attention.

I left witness marks that day...

I met him several times .... really mild mannered off the pitch but whole hearted on it.  Limited abiility like most of that St. John team but he was one of the better ones.  He was mates with David Kemp and they  used to drink in the Cowplain Social Club.
