Downing to Newport - slayer - 15-01-2021

One of my mates working at the ONS reckons Pompey are about to cancel Downing by mutual consent and he is agreeing terms with Newport.

Maybe not as injured as we thought then?

Very sensible if of course it happens

Can't really see him fitting in well at a club that play as physically as Newport, but he certainly has a lot to prove cos he has let himself down badly here.

Fcuking waste of time as witnessed the other day and on plenty of occasions.
I’ll drive the useless coont down there.
Good riddance

Well, he'll be very very welcome over here. He needs to bear in mind Wightlink are only running one ferry every two hours though.

Wink

If true then that's another outcome of this sodding salary cap ... it means you cannot get rid of players you want to.

But  could we not go ahead with the cancelling by mutual consent anyway ? He's had more than enough chances here and it is clearly not going to work so it would be good to get a replacement reserve in before the window shuts. Although actually from what we've seen of Bolton at centre-back he is better anyway.

Lol he's not going to cancel a contract without having another one lined up. Unfortunately his contract runs until summer 2022. What a joke.

Yep, what Pedalo said. He's not going to let go of one branch until he's got a firm hand on the next, and with the salary cap coming in, he's not going to make anywhere near what Pompey have put him on.

He'll leach us until the bitter end unless we pay him over half with less than half of the deal remaining/he gets another club so he's quids in.

The muitual consent will have involved some agreement on the rest of his contract here. We'd just need to increase that amount. Tbh I'd pay him off in full to get rid.
