We’ve been sold a pup … - MiltonPFC - 03-11-2021

… with The Cowley’s

“Tactically astute young management team who play entertaining attacking football with a high press”

Tactically inept, hugely out of their depth, playing a depressing variant of Jacketball with as few as possible shots on target as possible more like !

Surely the trades descriptions act should be involved

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Cressers - 03-11-2021

We were sold a pup with the Eisners.

As in the Eisners that have spent their own money investing in the club, the ground, the training facilities etc keeping us debt free

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - slayer - 04-11-2021

We tried playing a press. We got fucking annihilated because our players are too shit to play it.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Hammie - 04-11-2021

I wonder how much longer the high press will be the new big thing?
Seems to me if you are good enough, you let them press you, leaving gaps behind, then hit the ball over them for your own runners to chase. We might just have been caught like that a few times already.
If the opposition know what you are going to do every time then it must be possible to plan the appropriate counter move.

Milton PFC

Eisner has only spent only on readily realisable assets (the ground, ROKO etc), the Pompey fans have funded everything else via EWWK.

No L1 or L2 club has ceased trading throughout the Covid pandemic (with the exception of Bury and their demise wasn’t COVID related), L1 and L2 clubs didn’t  survive as a result of having Eisner’s money and I don’t believe he has been a Pompey Money Tree either. He is just a shrewd investor who bought Pompey on the cheap and who knows how to sweat an asset, nothing more, nothing less.

Some L1 teams have not just survived, they have ended up with better teams than Pompey (if the L1 table is to be believed).

Yes, Pompey are debt free but were when Trust owned…and secured promotion from L2 to L1 as well.

Tactically astute in certain aspects of the game(tactical time outs and verbally attacking the 4th official) with the majority of their experience gained mainly in non league.
Two  years managing in pro football(one at lincoln(ran out the back door, whilst under contract) and one at Huddersfield (sacked) where very little "entertaining football" was ever played.

Post Huddersfield they were pretty much on the dole, fading out of football and with a reputation for hoofball lots of owners wouldn`t even interview them for work until Mickey got sucked in by Team Cowley gobbledegook and installed them as head coaches.
Little due diligence was done by either party when striking a contract(cowleys hadn`t realised EISNER was running the club on a reduced cost base and DC oversold his pro football success (one promotion in professional football) totally enabled by a  generous owner at Lincoln who later needed to cut his costs by 40% to make the club viable once again post Cowley.

Don`t believe the hype and don`t get caught up in the emotion, make your own analysis using the facts.
Check it out on the pitch, are the players giving 100% and playing for the manager and do we have an identifiable pattern of play?
Medium term i predict Pompey will be treading water and probably our league position  will show us still sitting in league three for quite a few seasons, possibly flirting with the play offs  on the odd occasion but not able to compete with other sides in the division who like to spunk their dosh.

"sold a pup"    yes in my opinion.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Hammie - 05-11-2021

its been interesting to see compared their rather limited experience to that of Kenny who is hugely experienced and successful at this level.
The squad has been dismantled, but is it now any better?
Kenny's team might not have been pretty but was one of the top scorers until we fell apart in his last season.
But was his football any worse than we are seeing now.
And how long did it take him to "gel" the team in his first season? Don't recall him spending big then either.

Don't know what Jacket spent on Pitman, McGee etc but Cook left him with Clarke, Burgess, Lowe & Naismith who have all gone onto bigger and better things.  Not sure Jacket left DC many players who could consistently perform at a higher level so a bit difficult to compare their first seasons.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - ForeverPompey - 06-11-2021

Crucially Cowley has brought in quite a lot of rubbish. All our goals come from pre cowley players and raggett holds the defence together.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Rocketman - 06-11-2021

Baz, Morrell, Romeo, Thompson all good transfers in. Williams, Tunnicliffe, Robertson (because of injuries), Azeez, Adahme not up to it.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - PompeyDB - 06-11-2021

And who can say about Vincent, Mingi and Reid? I've no great expectations for them,if they ever play for us.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - ForeverPompey - 06-11-2021

Romeo flatters with little end product so far. Might be ok in time. Morrell good for sure. Thompson apparently only allowed to play occasionally as he is such a delicate doily! Williams and tunnicliffe a step backwards from close and Naylor. Baz very good but also stopping our own keeper making any progress. Ogilvie a bit of nothing. Freeman awful. Vincent and Robertson permanently injured. Then there is George Hirst.....

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Hammie - 06-11-2021

I wonder at what stage we decide that this not a promotion team.
Thus send back loans that we are developing for other clubs.
Not sure what Bass is supposed to achieve by sitting on the bench all season.
Would Romeo sign for us if offered?
Seems a bit of a mess with no overall plan in place.

We were going with the plan to get and develop good youngsters, since we moved from that and splurged, we seem a team going nowhere to me.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Smirnoffexpress - 06-11-2021

The whole thing is a heap of shat, and it’s heading nowhere.

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Bedhamptonblue69 - 06-11-2021

Agree with Smirnoff . The Cowleys are part of the problem and with them at the helm we will still be in this poxy league under their management as long as they are here or even relegated . Total crap !!

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - Roybatty - 06-11-2021

Fella at work, got picked up from the airport from a certain someone,he said Cowley's have lost the dressing room already, apparently after the game, he gets them to stand up one at a time and lectures them on what they did wrong, not surprising given there teaching background

RE: We’ve been sold a pup … - STEVE - 06-11-2021

Massive pile of dung.

Nothing will change until the owners are gone.

Fuckers have no respect for the fans or the club.

So, when asked in the post match interview: "How did the players react after that one? Did they want more as well?"... Cowley's reply: "Well, they should do. They should do, because for us, you know, they're nowhere near the standards that we expect from ourselves."

"Should do" ffs and "they're nowhere near the standards...". It doesn't sound like players and manager are swiping from the same iPad.

Sorry, Roy. That is utter nonsense!
