Very sad ... in my top three of all time favourite Pompey managers and the promotion season from Div 4 is probably in second place in all time favourite seasons.

RIP Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - ForeverPompey - 24-11-2021

He was at the helm the first time I witnessed Pompey ever achieve anything. 1979-80 I think. I remember the Northampton game and the Guildhall square do with FB urging everyone to 'give us the Chimes'. RIP

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - mikey393 - 24-11-2021

I remember him with great affection. That promotion season restored a lot of pride to the City. R.I.P. Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Jizbag - 24-11-2021

Great memories of that final game at Northampton....

RIP Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Port_stowe - 24-11-2021

Lots of great memories from his two spells as manager here. He took the helm from Jimmy Dickinson and (IIRC) sold Steve Foster to buy Steve Aizlewood and a couple of others ,(Archie Styles, Alan Rogers, Joe Laidlaw). It was a great time to be a Pompey fan, exciting football lots of goals and big crowds. RIP Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - bluebollox - 24-11-2021

RIP Frank. Northampton-my 1st taste of success after 10 yrs of support. Great season culminating with THAT DAY @ Northampton.
Brilliant memories & tks Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Hammie - 24-11-2021

and the day Deacon appointed him...
"this is all very well, but one day you will sack me"
Blunt, good football, fitted Pompey perfectly!

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Northstander - 24-11-2021

Remember him signing Steve Aizlewood and John McLaughlin from Swindon for not a lot of money. Between them they played 350 league games for Pompey. RIP Frank

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - firqdays - 24-11-2021

Northampton was a massive day for Pompey fans; there and later in Trafalgar square......
The team he put together in those days was special - Macca one of my all time favourite midfield generals .

A no nonsense bloke who knew football INSIDE OUT - RIP Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Smirnoffexpress - 24-11-2021

Always have a special place in my heart for him and that promotion team. R.I.P.

Two different and different spellings

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Jizbag - 24-11-2021

McLaughlin? Thought he was a full back?

Certainly was, a RB.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Hammie - 24-11-2021

I started with Bobby Campbell's promotion team really. Sounds Like Frank laid the foundations.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Gerry Hatrick - 24-11-2021

People may have forgotten what a long, long time it had been for us to experience ANY kind of success before Frank came along. He was a one-off, a true character. One Frankie Burrows, there was only one Frankie Burrows....

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - exgaffer - 24-11-2021

Great manager, great memories.

RIP Frank.

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Hermann's_no_hermit - 24-11-2021

As so many above, that Northampton game, that whole season when we emerged from so many bad times were very special. Thanks for the memories Frank.

You missed out on the favourite games of so many of us Hammie. Just goes to show that for all we moan about not being at least in the Championship, let alone the Premier League, for so many of us our favourite moments were when we were in Div 4 and Div 3.

Could hardly move it was so packed, I remember when we scored my gf at the time disappeared under the crowd and I had to hang on to her arm. Crazy day, brilliant memories!!

Cheers Frank...Pompey legend.
