Remember beating Sunderland 4-1 (or was it two). Think Frank was manager. One of my favourite ever memories of the Fratton End, all surging forward, packed liked sardines as Jeff the Frizz Hemmerman banged em in.

I think your more likely to be talking about 4-1 against Bradford, this was the next game at home after Huddersfield away which we won 3-1. The Fratton End was electric that day as we stormed into an early lead flicked in at the near post. Then we had one of the best ever goals at Fratton by Phil Ashworth as he chested the ball down with back to goal swivelled and volled into the net. Maybe you remeber the 4-2 against Sunderland a few years earlier but before big Franks time. Those were really bleak times being a Pompey fan and Frank really turned things around

Think you're right, Deep'll know!

RE: RIP Frank Burrows - Lawrence - 25-11-2021

78/79 was my first Pompey season. I was too young to know the hardship that the club had gone through a few years earlier. All I saw was a team that I thought could never lose - at home anyway.

I'm going to sound like one of the four yorkshire men in that Monty Python sketch but my Dad would have to get us in the ground by 1pm at the latest to get a standing position. We were so exciting to watch and all the players looked like rock starrs. I thought it was amazing and looking back it was a cracking year to start watching Pompey.

Imagine your first Pompey season being Richie Barker!

Ball, Campbell & Burrows all now gone. Such a shame.

often regretted being too young to do that one (or Liverpool).
You missed out on the favourite games of so many of us Hammie. Just goes to show that for all we moan about not being at least in the Championship, let alone the Premier League, for so many of us our favourite moments were when we were in Div 4 and Div 3.

Just goes to show if we have a decent playing, effort giving, winning team we're happy not being in the Prem.
