Tunnel incident - Gerry Hatrick - 07-02-2022

Really rather a strange matter this. Wondering what anyone else is making of the titbits of information that have emerged so far. Bearing in mind that it resulted in a long delay to the start of the second half, it can't have been as trivial as both managers seem to be making out.
Cowley felt the need to contact the guy who needed hospital treatment on Sunday and ask him if he was all right. Meanwhile, the FA have confirmed that they are investigating the matter.

RE: Tunnel incident - Northstander - 07-02-2022

My son who was there (one of us but not sitting with our fans) said all hell let loose. Police, Stewards and Medics went down the tunnel. Also that at the end Robinson made sure his players didnt go in until our players had done so

RE: Tunnel incident - Gerry Hatrick - 07-02-2022

Did it happen as the players were going down the tunnel? At one point on Saturday, DC said that he didn't see anything because it happened in the Oxford changing room. Very confusing.

RE: Tunnel incident - Pedalo_menders - 07-02-2022

I've heard everything from it being a brawl to someone falling over on their own.

I doubt we'll actually find out what happened until Neil Allen's next book comes out.

RE: Tunnel incident - Northstander - 07-02-2022

Gerry, The News reported it as a head injury sustained in the tunnel area. Danny Cowley told The News the incident happened while he and his players were in the away dressing room. He also denied any of his squad were involved. Robinson quoted as saying someone fell and banged his head (apparently it was their version of Barry Harris, a volunteer kitman). All very strange indeed. The referee in addition to writing up all the yellow and red card reports, will have had to write a report as to why the game restart was delayed. That report won't be made public, it would make interesting reading if it was

RE: Tunnel incident - slayer - 07-02-2022

Version of events I heard is there was a scuffle between the players, it got out of hand, pushing and shoving and one of the Oxford staff who was trying to break it up was knocked to the ground and cracked their head open, nasty injury which required treatment from St John's. A stretcher was sent down but was not required.

There is talk that a fan went in there but that is total bollocks.as arrested to the number of arrests made at the game (zero).

RE: Tunnel incident - Hammie - 07-02-2022

the scuffle sounds more realistic than anything else. A manager saying they saw nothing is very suspicious and very unusual for NC.

Let’s be honest, DC talks a lot of shite.

totally agree but he ALWAYS says something, for him to say nothing is odd

He takes full responsibility but it was the kit man’s fault.

RE: Tunnel incident - BabaOReally - 07-02-2022

Probably in Oxford's interest to play it down as they were charged after a tunnel incident at the stadium of light last season. The fat, scouse, James Corden lookalike even claimed to have called the rozzers over it. To be fair to Karl Robinson, he's nowhere near as sh!t as the real James Corden.

RE: Tunnel incident - Tomsk - 08-02-2022

Tbf to Karl Robinson he's getting a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a scouse tit

RE: Tunnel incident - scouse - 08-02-2022

We get everywhere.

One who wants to manage us by the sounds of it. Every time we play them now he bigs us up

RE: Tunnel incident - exgaffer - 08-02-2022

Some of my favourite Pompey teams often got involved in scuffles in tunnels, shows a bit of passion doesn’t it?

So if it was a scuffle in the tunnel it was probably handbags, if it wasn’t some geezer fell over and hit his head.

Either way it’s not exactly earth shattering is it?

Sympathies to the bloke involved of course.

RE: Tunnel incident - Tomsk - 08-02-2022

Indeed, we don't know but we can guess it was probably feck all but somebody will no doubt be offended or need counselling or feel the need to post a sad emoji along the way.
Peoples' rights and welfare and awareness have rightly improved in recent times but we're also turning into a right bunch of soft fannies

RE: Tunnel incident - stayinupforever - 08-02-2022

Actually why did the game need to be delayed?

I quite like a soft fanny. A bunch of them would be even better.

Very good question.

Perhaps because everyone was getting their stories straight for the investigation ?

RE: Tunnel incident - Pedalo_menders - 08-02-2022

Depends on the situation though doesn't it. Flipping it round, if someone knocked out Barry Harris I think there would be a riot.

I'm sure if Kev the kitman was still going to games, he could have handed out some free naps if needed.

It seems to be the current fashion.  Never known so many games paused because of something happening to a fan in the crowd either.

RE: Tunnel incident - Northstander - 09-02-2022

From Hampshire Live.........Thames Valley Police have confirmed that they have launched an investigation into the events at half-time in the tunnel during Portsmouth’s 3-2 loss at Oxford United.
Kick-off for the second half was delayed by around 20 minutes after an incident took place in the tunnel that led to a volunteer kit man falling and hurting his head before being taken to hospital.
Asked whether he had been contacted about what took place, Blues boss Danny Cowley admits it is the first he has heard of the police investigation. He added that we have done nothing wrong
