Great to see that again after all these years. We were there and nobody ever believes when we describe it. Thanks for the proof. Shame Knightsie isn’t quite in shot as it trickles past him.

I was there too, but oddly I seem to remember seeing it roll in from the far end, not from behind the goal. I guess that as I was living in London, I must have just turned up on the day and gone in to the home end. But that goal probably cost us dear - assuming all subsequent results that season had remained the same, a draw in that game would have seen us promoted ahead of Man City, and maybe we'd have held on to Neil Webb for a bit longer. That season also saw one of the most memorable Pompey goals I've seen, Kevin O'Callaghan at Huddersfield in the last game.

My recollection was that Knightsie was already down holding his knee as Blakey passed back...... he probably went down after the ball went past him!

We were playing into a strong wind and happy to be 0-0 on the stroke of half-time, only to concede 2 in half a minute.

Still should have extended our unbeaten record as we dominated the second half attacking our end, but great to see the video after all these years!

yeh, he was rubbing away, glanced up saw the ball bobbling past made a last frantic dive to try and get to it and slid in behind it. We were right behind the goal. At the end of the day, never pass back direct towards the goal, to the edge of the 6 yard box. Two of our really great players made to look stupid.

Difference in those days was that keepers could pick up back passes and tended to stay in the goalmouth much more than they do nowadays. A soft back pass such as Blakey's, whether it was or wasn't on target, should not have caused any problem whatsoever!

but very sadly for all of us there it did!
Very annoying it was against Wimbledon cos they were one of our toughest rivalries at the time.

Whadya know, it's on record!

.......and I'm on camera!!!!!

Well done for digging that out, C. For most of my life, it's just been a memory.
Love the double-take Blakey does when he realises what he's done.

I wonder if he's gone to Wembley today to watch Citeh's semi final ? Dreadful error by the no 2 Keeper to gift Liverpool their 2nd goal. Oops
