jackett did not want to sell him, he felt Pompey had put in a lot of work to get him to very experienced for his age.

Agree, you could see his influence on the game, has certainly matured into a good player at this level, can he go higher ? He’s had one go, probably deserves another.
Why was he sold ? Because we are a selling club (assuming an offer comes in for a player) and likely will be for the next decade.

He loves Pompey too - he got booked for over-celebrating a goal he scored elsewhere that did us a favour two or three years back (I think it was for Coventry v Sunderland)

if you were sat at the solent forum thing, he had a very sweaty uncomfortable looking striker captain sat next to him being told indirectly that he had reported back unprofessionally overweight. He also answered a direct question about selling Chaplin and made it very clear that he had not wanted Chaplin to leave. Comes down to agents touting players about.

Always liked Chaplin for his effort and commitment to the cause but the reality is that it is a long time since the academy has produced players that can thrive at a higher level so was n't too disappointed to see him try his luck elsewhere. If we are going to establish ourselves in the Championship the academy will have to turn out players that can really perform at that level. It was so telling last summer how little Championship interest there was in our home grown talent.

to be realistic we are probably going to ahve to go down the route of signing higher league cast offs for a while. But that then highlights the lack of a reserve (U23 maybe) squad to bring either our younger players or young imports through. We can probably get away with it at this level but not many youngsters can go straight into a champ, probably relegation fighting, team.
