RE: Next Manager - Hammie - 12-04-2022

I'd agree that Hirst has improved, far enough that a lot of us would be happy to see him stay next year.
I'd actually wonder if Baz has developed. He was and is a great shot stopper. But has his much lauded distribution contributed to many fast breaks for a goal or has it got better or indeed worse? The biggest thing I would want to see him develop is dominating his area as top keepers should. The difference that made to Cook's promotion team when we got a calm 'keeper who plucked many crosses was huge.
Carter was a great signing, not sure we have developed him other than giving him game time.

Have Baz, Hirst, Wlaker developed?
Or the young players we have signed who have disappeared?
We do seem very good at getting them injured. Maybe a result of this insistence on high press.

I don't understand how anyone can possibly think Hirst has not developed through the season ?  The evidence is there right in front of your eyes.  Bazanu & Carter too have both been successful young loans whose host clubs will be delighted at the development in their game whilst under the Cowleys.

The only young loan that did not develop here was Azeez, and that was more due to lots of competition in his position, but I dont think anyone can criticise DC for taking a player like him with his profile on loan - he could equally have been sensation if he had been ready for Lge 1 football, which he clearly wasn't.

Other loans like Romeo & Walker are old experienced players where development is not an issue.

The handling of Azeez was awful which is why he was recalled. There was no competition at that time, we were crying out for creativity. He wasn’t given the opportunity and if he wasn’t ready for L1 football, what was he doing here?

Hirst is slightly less shit than he was granted.

So do you think Man City & Blackburn will be happy or unhappy at the development they have received here  ?

I would think both would be delighted. Bazanu for one has gone from being a promising keeper who could not keep an undisputed first team position at Rochdale to being undisputed first choice for Pompey & the Republic of Ireland. And Carter has done so well here there is talk of them keeping him for their own uses next year rather than loaning him out again.

I would say both clubs should be more than happy.

I agree with the mis-handling of Azeez wasn't given a proper chance from the off.

He wasn't allowed to get into a rythm from the start maybe DC was scared to over play him?

The latest from the Emirates is that he could be going into Arsenal's 1st team No thanks to Pompey!

As for Hirst I would say he's improved since being with us & confidence has increased.

Still a long way to go but potentially a decent Championship Striker.

They're not our players are they. Hume who we paid £200k for, is absent mostly. Roberston, not impressed. Tunnicliffe, average. Williams, no thanks. Morrell is decent and Ogilvie is the one shining light.

Cowley is so far out of his depth it's embarrassing.

I'm sure they are but it has not got us promoted or developed any player for us for next season.
I would have preferred in a season that long ago most of us wrote off as a promotion season we had either developed two players that are already ours or bought in loans that we intended to sign and developed them.

So your argument is that if we had played players not as good as Bazanu, Carter or Hirst we would be more likely to have got promoted ???  The manager's job is to get the best team he can out on the pitch. And who knows if any of the loanees we have had will still be here next season so we get the advantage of their development ? We all know Bazanu is very unlikely because of his success here and for Ireland but Cowley still has hopes of getting Carter and/or Hirst.

And if we had got promoted this year would people still be complaining about having loan players ? I think not.  They would be praising DC for using the loan system well to get players that improve the team rather than to fill the squad with back-up players like Jackett did.

We didn’t get promoted though.

Sean Dyche

Deep would tell you the sky is green and the grass is blue if he thought it would make the club look better. Logic rarely enters his thought process.

RE: Next Manager - Hammie - 18-04-2022

Just wondering. With most players out of contract etc etc. If we did suddenly decide to bring in a new manager at a time when they could bring in their own players.
Who is the nailed on 3rd tier promotion specialist.?
That was pretty much what Kenny was when we signed him. And on the budget he had he was actually very close.
Leaving him and NC aside.
If we were in the Champ it would have been Warnock but wrong league and he's retired.
So who has that background at this level and is still available?
I must admit I'm struggling to come up with a name.

A colleague of mine at work is best mates with Sean Dyche. They have been mates since being at school together.
I have already asked my colleague to ask Sean Dyche if he is interested in the managers job at Pompey! Tongue
It would be a challenge for him, even if we could afford him.
How many more seasons in the third division?

Well, if Rotherham get promoted, then Paul Warne will have got them up from Div 3 three times (and obviously relegated a couple of times too!).  Of course, he might want to bring his assistant with him. (Look him up!)

RE: Next Manager - bluebollox - 19-04-2022

I'm not completely sold on The Cowleys tbh. But they're a darn sight better then KJ ffs. And instead of throwing the toys out the pram with every poor result how about going by the mantra of every manager needs 3 xfer windows to mould the squad. Over to you DC(dont f#ck it up).

RE: Next Manager - Hammie - 19-04-2022

I would love to say it will get better with the third window. Trouble is we don't seem to be building anything window on window.
Looking back both Kenny and Cook did all their best business in their first window. Cook crucially added Forde in his third, can't recall what Kenny did as his January windows were generally poor.
The constant tinkering has not helped either.

Better how?

A poor manager shouldn’t get 3 windows, to honest he never should have got the job.

Window 3 will be claiming he’s been working on this window since January and then going to 1 club and getting a few players, a couple he’s worked with before and a few desperate signings before the window closes that leaves us with a tiny squad because he’s pissed his budget away again.

He’ll sell Bass claiming it’s best for the player.

Euromillions numbers for Friday please...
So going by your Mantra SAF should've been sacked @ Utd after a year...
Better because they have a bit of heart, unlike Kenny who used to shit himself the moment pressure was brought to bear.

Did well @ Huddersfield-brought in when all seemed lost & kept them up. So they're not L2 @ best. Look I'm not completely sold but hire em fire em doesn't generally work. They're aren't the messiahs, but they aren't crap either. And they are a damn sight better than Jackett. One more window then we'll see. If they feck it up then by all means tell Tornante to sack them. But I doubt you'll get very far on that tbh.  Big Grin
