What shall we moan about now?

If he plays like he did for the last few games of the season, we can moan about that.  Smile

Excellent News on Jacobs! Spreadsheet Danny realised too late for the play offs that Jacobs was his best creative midfield player & that he could play Harness as well!

If we can re-sign Hirst on loan that will be even better news but it may well be last minute.com so need a couple of other strikers in. Be good if O'brien can re-signed permanently or on loan if the deal's Not now dead?

He is our player, you cannot sign a player on loan from your own club. But his contract expires in a few weeks.

O.k. didn't realise that thought it was a 6 month loan deal.

That's a really short contract!

Sunderland paid his contract up to get him off the books.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Cunninglinguist - 09-06-2022

O’Brien and Jacobs. Two players who struggle to play a full 90 minutes.

One struggles to perform for an entire match and one who can’t keep u his relentless pace for 90 mins.

Good squad players.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Hammie - 11-06-2022

So O'Brien has been offered a contract. Now we'll find out if he really does want to play for us.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - slayer - 11-06-2022

O'Brien is this year's Whatmough. The club put the word out that terms have been offered and if the player rejects a derisory over, the fans vilify him.

Blew up in their faces with Whatmough though didn't it.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Cunninglinguist - 11-06-2022

Well we didn’t miss Whatmough last season and O’Brien wasn’t a guaranteed start.

Can’t see what the fuss is about, tbh. Offer him reasonable terms and if he doesn’t agree then move on.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Pompeyg100 - 11-06-2022

We didn’t miss him? You know what he’s achieved this season right? and where Pompey finished?

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Cunninglinguist - 12-06-2022

We were ok in the centre of defense, or weren’t you watching.

We couldn’t cross a decent ball into the box and that’s the reason we failed.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Pompeyg100 - 12-06-2022

We were ok yes but we definitely missed one of the best center backs in the league.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Cunninglinguist - 12-06-2022

No we didn’t. Raggett was one of the best centre backs in the league and Ogilvie wasn’t lacking either. Which one would you have replaced with Whatmough (who i would agree, is an excellent player)?

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Pompeyg100 - 12-06-2022

Either but probably Ogilvie.

We missed not having every Wigan player.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - bluetagagain - 12-06-2022

I agree. Whatmough along side Raggett and Ogilvie as FB

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Pedalo_menders - 12-06-2022

Whatmough could defend, track back, cross, play a pinpoint accurate crossfield ball, run the ball out of defense. Easily our best player. Yes we missed him.

This same defence that leaked 2 against Cambridge (home & away), 2 against non league Sutton, 2 against non league Harrogate, 3 against Fleetwood, 3 against Oxford,, 4 against iswich, 4 against Sheffield, 4 against Rotherham, 5 against wimbledon - to pick some particular lowlights.

And then add to that we had a £10M rated keeper bailing us out most weeks.

I still worry about our defence this coming season. Its' leaky as fook!

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - slayer - 12-06-2022

Anyone who watched us regularly last season will know that Bazunu bailed us out every other game. I dread to think where we would have finished without him

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - Cunninglinguist - 12-06-2022

First time I’ve heard of a central defender tracking back. That makes him truly remarkable (or out of position).

He and Clarke can move the ball out of defense rather than a big aimless hoof, so yes they do get out of position sometimes.

Whatmough was player of the season in a team that won the league. And named in the L1 team of the season. Raggett was player of the season in a team that finished 10th and was not in the L1 team of the year.

Only one factor. Cowley lost the plot at times and didn’t know his best team. Add to that some odd or ill used loan signings…

Player of the season is player of the season, just because your team was successful that doesn’t necessarily make you a better player does it?

Whatmough is a really good player, of course he is, but so is Raggett. Whatmough has a history of bad injuries, Wigan took a gamble on him and it paid off, it could just as easily have gone the other way.

I wish Whatmough and Raggett all the best in their careers and I am delighted that Raggett will be with us for a while longer. Hopefully he can be player of the year in a promoted team this time round.

Oh and Raggett can play the ball out too, which you will see if you can be bothered to look.

RE: Jacobs & O'brien - DeepBlue - 12-06-2022

Agreed ... Raggett's distribution has improved no end under Cowley, which added to the existing strength in that department from Bazanu & Robertson says a lot about the playing style the Cowleys are aiming at.
