Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - DeepBlue - 05-07-2022

Wages have been paid late for the last two months, the first time 'because of the Queen's Jubilee' and the second time because of 'issues with foreign banks', according to their Bahraini owner.  Their chief financial officer has resigned from the board, and other staff are considering their futures.  No summer signings.

Watch this space, I suspect.

They've got a half decent CB I wouldn't mind signing.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - briefcase_wanchor - 05-07-2022

Nothing against Wigan, but the thought of that jug-eared tool James McLean worrying for his future is most satisfying (even if it is just temporary).

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - Hammie - 05-07-2022

and still we get fans wanting to splurge the cash
I doubt Wigan will be the last this season, Covid losses are still biting.

No one asking our board to spend millions like Wigan did , they were spending well above there means

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - Cunninglinguist - 05-07-2022

Plenty on here have advocated the same.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - billyb - 05-07-2022

Our owners could increase our playing budget by 2 million this year without putting the club into debt. That wouldn't guarantee promotion, but would make us more competitive.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - mikey393 - 05-07-2022

It depends if it's out of their own actual pockets as opposed to Loans to the club.

There's a very Big Difference.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - slayer - 05-07-2022

I remember that smarmy coont when he turned up at Wigan, giving it the biggun with signings. Very satisfying

Please reread my post! The bit where I say "...without putting the club into debt".

Derby even though they are just out of administration they seem to signing some big names for league one got to be on some big wages.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - Cunninglinguist - 06-07-2022

Ipswich did the same, last year.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - Roybatty - 06-07-2022

Champagne taste, lemonade pockets

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - Isaac Hunt - 06-07-2022

It's about time "live within your means" was implemented all round.
We are doing the correct thing IMHO

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - slayer - 06-07-2022

All suggestions that it genuinely was a BACS payment configuration error and they've fixed it now. Shame

Surprised the CFO felt the need to resign from the Board for this reason.

That was Storrie's favourite excuse.

RE: Alarm bells ringing at Wigan - Pedalo_menders - 06-07-2022

It'll come out in the wash. It could be that the cfo fooked it up 2 months running and was given the boot.

We'll probably know more at next month's payroll!

Why? If the owners are wealthy and feel like they want to maximise the allowed playing budget without loading the club with debt, then that gives us a better chance of promotion. Haven't we been in League One long enough living within our means??

It sounds like ambitious financial management. The BACS payment couldn’t be made to schedule maybe because the money was still accruing interest somewhere else. Cash flow bottleneck.

And what has that got to do with the Queen's Jubilee ?

No new players signed, local long standing CFO resigns, failure to pay wages two months in a row.  Does n't sound much like ambitious financial management but guess we will find out in due course.
