This also takes me back to February 1974, when Pompey played their first game on a Sunday, starting at 2.30. This was against Orient in the FA Cup, 0-0. It was during the power cuts, of course. I was a stripling of 13, but still tall enough to stand at the back of the Fratton End and see ok, in a 32,000 crowd.
Typical Deacon era attendance reporting. By the time everyone got in at half time the crowd was closer to 40,000. Lot of unhappy people missed half the game and the only time queueing at football I thought there was a good chance of being a goner. Great atmosphere though.
Better game was against palace another 2.15 kick off. Pompey scrapped to a 2-2 draw, good old Dicky Reynolds. But Don Rogers and Peter Taylor at times ripped them to pieces

I remember that 2-2 Palace draw as I could actually see what was going on on the pitch, whereas the Orient game was a nightmare as for a 9 year old I couldn't see a thing and there was no way I was pushing to the front of the North Stand.
