First interview. - BilltheCat - 20-01-2023

Very articulate:

"I'm Extremely Proud" ? | John Mousinho's First Pompey Interview - YouTube

RE: First interview. - BoilermakersHump - 21-01-2023

From all the Sound Bites uttered at the press unveiling of The Un-Chosen One.

"I'm Gob Smacked" he said.

Well so are we all.

I've looked at Pompey's next 5 games well I hope he's ready for the "journey'"
they alluded to.

It's never easy supporting Pompey it might just be a bit tougher in the near future.

RE: First interview. - dsmg - 21-01-2023

The un chosen one lol. You’re right about the next five games, looks like we deffo need three points from this one

RE: First interview. - dsmg - 21-01-2023

Comes over really well. Can talk the talk, can he…?

RE: First interview. - Gerry Hatrick - 21-01-2023

An interesting press conference. The content was quite bland but the body language revealing.

Cullen dominated, coming across very confidently and pointing out that the club wanted a new approach to choosing a head coach because previous strategies hadn't worked. This alluded to the fact that both he and Hughes had appointed previously untried head coaches at Forest Green and MK Dons and it had been a success. Other than that it was the usual stuff about 'visions', long term strategy and 'fitting in' with the club's management structure.
As we went from him to Mousinho to Hughes, the charisma-vibe visibly wilted.

Mousinho came across quite well though, by the number of swigs he was taking from the water bottle and general delivery, seemed pretty nervous and clearly a fella who, a. couldn't believe his luck and b. was clearly unaccustomed to this attention. There was nothing much in what he said to inspire or doubt that he might be the right one.

The came Hughes......

Some people shine in a spotlight, others look like a rabbit frozen in the headlights or a suspect in a local break in. Hughes' shifty demeanour didn't help add credibility to his points about why Mousinho was the chosen one. His po-faced delivery and lack of eye contact with the assembled media smacked of a good poker player or a suspect who knows he's about to be found out.
We haven't seen a lot of Hughes - perhaps for good reason - but let's hope appearances don't count for much.

Mousinho revealed little more of interest in his one-to-one interview except how he came ot the club's attention - he and Hughes met a while ago at an FA coaching course and was invited to apply. So this is a Hughes-led appointment.

Got to hand it to Cullen and Hughes. They were quite aware of how this appointment would go down with fans but have gone with their convictions of who would be the best person, not who would displease the fans most.

Hughes came across in the press conference as a poker player or a crook. If it's more poker player, he may have scooped some good pots in some backwater dives in the past but he's in Vegas now, gambling everything he's got.......with the Mob, Nevada-shovel at the ready, looking over his shoulder.

Christ almighty, it was a football interview.

Your amateur psychological analysis says more about you than it does about them.

Most fans couldn’t give a flying one about any of that trivia, all we’re interested in is what happens on the pitch and that has yet to be seen.

RE: First interview. - dsmg - 21-01-2023

The guy is giving his opinion, Gaffer. Christ knows you do it often enough

RE: First interview. - briefcase_wanchor - 21-01-2023

Came across as a very corporate bunch. Like a shareholders meeting. We definitely have a very atypical management set-up with this lot, but I thought Mousinho came across ok, articulate and intelligent however the proof is in the pudding as hat doesn't always translate to a great manager.

One thing that surprised me is the desire to return to a pressing style and the spotlight on the requisite need for extreme levels of fitness and, more or less, injury-proof players. Hasn't this squad been decimated as a result of that? Whilst I enjoyed watching that style I'm concerned that we do not have the time or medical know-how to transform these crocks into a lean, fast pressing outfit.

RE: First interview. - Sharpe* - 21-01-2023

Christ he does come across as pretty green although articulate.

If this is to have any chance of success he will need our support and that starts today at 3pm.

I'm still quite shocked they've taken such a big risk in appointing him.

They've gone all in!

RE: First interview. - Smirnoffexpress - 21-01-2023

As I’ve already said, manager wise we’ve got what we’ve now got and that’s it. All we can do is support him and give him a chance. Here’s hoping and praying that they got it right.

RE: First interview. - Gerry Hatrick - 21-01-2023

Does anyone know how long his contract is? Cullen referred to "long-term" yesterday and then, for this season "and next".

Sounds like Hughes & Cullen are playing Russian Roulette with our club!
This could either be a spectacular appointment or a total disaster.
Let's all hope it's the former.

But we’re obviously only paying him the minimum wage so it won’t cost too much compo if he only lasts until Easter. Big Grin

He sounds genuine and likeable, but so did DC when he first arrived.
Time will tell I guess.
I wish him all the luck in this venture though.

RE: First interview. - Theyak2 - 21-01-2023

Off to a great start.
Shit first half.
Team talk
A fast break goal from open play and all of a sudden Pompey looked good.
The keeper signing has yo be said as genius at short notice.
The man got us three points today by keeping us in the game until we scored.
It's a good start, nothing more but ......
