Ryan Williams - slayer - 28-11-2020

Right, he's got the hair, he's got the tattoos, but other than that, what the fuck does he offer?

Energy and work rate.

Must improve his end product though.

RE: Ryan Williams - Gerry Hatrick - 29-11-2020

The problem with people like Williams and Harrison, who contributes much less to the team, is coaching. They clearly have 'something' but seem to be aimless in their roles. Williams offers a lot of drive and presents an attacking threat but needs to lift his head at some point and pick out a pass. Harrison lacks discipline and loses the possession too many times.
Some aspects of our coaching have improved a great deal. We keep our shape and our work-rate is fine. Also our set pieces are much better, clearing the first defender and offering a goal-scoring opportunity. But I'm not sure we're so good at bringing out the best in individuals.

Is Peter Taylor still working with us?

RE: Ryan Williams - Gerry Hatrick - 29-11-2020

I think Taylor's tenure was pretty short-lived. And Stuart Pearce went back to West Ham where he seems to be doing a pretty decent job

RE: Ryan Williams - slayer - 29-11-2020

Great post about coaching Gerry. Think you have nailed the problem there. Unless players like Williams receive one on one coaching then I can't see him ever getting past being a track and field athlete.

RE: Ryan Williams - bluetagagain - 29-11-2020

Posted this yesterday about Williams on another thread. I've been saying it since day one (along with Jackett out :-) ). Lots of huff and puff and no end product. Better coaching could help but then again just let him go when his contract is up,there's a lot better out there.

RE: Ryan Williams - slayer - 30-11-2020

I tend to agree that Williams runs and sod all else.

At this point why not blood a nipper to play his role? They can't do worse

RE: Ryan Williams - bluetagagain - 01-12-2020

Young Eoin Taggert is coming along well and he played senior football in NI before coming to us as a nipper

Williams was terrible tonight... along with every other creative player apart from hiwula who apparently wasn’t worth a run... still good to see pring come on to seal the defeat.

RE: Ryan Williams - slayer - 01-12-2020

Williams getting into first XIs screams weak squad.

RE: Ryan Williams - bluetagagain - 02-12-2020

Not only Williams but what about Marquis. OK he's banged in a few so far this season but in all honesty he looks less like a footballer than anyone else on the pitch, devoid of any see able skill other than blundering shots ( well maybe not all of them ) over the line. A poor footballer all round.

Stick to Curtis and Harness on the wings and stick Harrison up front with Hiwula

Are you saying that you would rather have a player, that KJ clearly doesn't rate (maybe he sees something in training that we don't?) over the league's top goal scorer?!

This is why I'm glad that you don't get to pick the team!  Rolleyes

But I do agree that it is incredibly frustrating that he doesn't seem to get a run out, especially when we are chasing a goal and we has five subs to use?!

RE: Ryan Williams - ForeverPompey - 03-12-2020

I'm not a big Marquis fan, but it would be hard to leave him out of a team when he's top scorer in the division / league. It seems to me that we operate better, and so does Marquis, when Harrison is playing, so why does KJ regularly drop him to the bench?

RE: Ryan Williams - bluetagagain - 03-12-2020

EDDJ if you trust Jacketts judgement on players I'd probably just stay quiet if I were you.

RE: Ryan Williams - slayer - 03-12-2020

Marquis is a great example of how one can argue stats one way or another.

He might be highest (says a lot about the volume of goals and where they come from within squads in this division) but his numbers should be at least a third better than they are.

Such a wasteful finisher.

Another game, another track and field performance by Wig n' Sleeve Man

Couldn't you try your "motivational geniusness" out on Jackett?
