MacG - slayer - 15-02-2023

What a phenomenal save off Bishop last night.

Professional respect between the two players immediately after the save and again at FT, was nice to see.

and to keep our fans quiet an astonishing foot save by Oly

Mc was a very good shot stopper but started doing the modern thing of pushing shots back in front rather than around the corner, not sure why that is but Griffiths seemed to have the same issue.

He was excellent for us. Seems to have had a rough deal at Charlton.

RE: MacG - slayer - 15-02-2023

I bet he regrets that Charlton move. I remember it being money oriented, and now he plays at Burton, no doubt on less than we offered him to stay.

Stand to be corrected but I thought it was said at the time that we didn't offer him a deal to stay?

This tends to be the sort of mediation that Deep is good at. Am I mistaken? I thought we made post Covid level offers to him, Whatmough, OBrien and they all went for better offers elsewhere

Yes, that's my memory too. His bird is from Pompey and I remember him saying he was settled and wanted to stay

RE: MacG - slayer - 15-02-2023

It seems that I am wrong, we had an option and Cowley didn't activate it

Sounds like a bit of the classic cant play the sweeper role DC is so obsessed with too.

RE: MacG - Pedalo_menders - 16-02-2023

That was a big blind spot that Danny had. Can't build a squad across more than 1 season.

Perhaps it's easier to get ringers in non-league who can make more of an impact for a season.

Certainly no way to build a promotion squad in L1 though.

The trouble is with options that they always must include a pay rise, by league/pfa rules. So sometimes its simply that the pay rise puts the player up to higher wages than the manager feels they can pay for a similar player.

That is true, and is often why options are not taken up when fans think they should be, but I think this one was far simpler than that. Cowley knew he could get Bazunu and he wanted him more than he wanted McGillivray, and yes, being able to play with his feet was probably a big factor in that decision because that was he he wanted his team to play.

And who's to say he was wrong when within two years McGillivray was third choice at Charlton.

Pleased to see he appers to be recovering his career at Burton. Seems a good fit for him.
