Bishop's season haul - Gerry Hatrick - 15-03-2023

He's keeping tight-lipped about his target but the Bishop is closing in on our best in a season.

Gerry Creaney got 22 in 1994-95 followed by Pitman's 24 in 2017/18, Peter Harris scored 25 in 53/54 and then it's Toddy's 26. Couldn't find any data on Ray Hiron who I'm sure hit more than 20. Am I missing any others? Anyway, it's very achievable given our fixture run-in.

Of course, unless we sign Harland in the summer, no-one's going to beat Corporal Punishment's 48.

RE: Bishop's season haul - Northstander - 15-03-2023

Gerry....Pompey Rama has Ray's best season as 69/70 18 league goals from 41 appearances. He scored 110 league goals in total from 330 appearances, 1 in 3 not too shoddy is it

RE: Bishop's season haul - Sharpe* - 15-03-2023

If they sell him if would send people wild.

We absolutely must keep hold of him.

One of the few players we have which are capable of getting us out of things league and compete in the Championship.

If we could become more solid and provide him with more opportunities to score then imagine how many he could get!

He's done really well scoring with the scraps he's often been fed this season.

RE: Bishop's season haul - Pompeyg100 - 15-03-2023

You have to be realistic at this level, if a £5m bid comes in from the championship and the player wants to go then it’s very hard to keep him.

You can’t say don’t sell under any circumstances.

All depends on where we want to be - or what the owners ambitions are.

Knowing them they will sell at the first opportunity and we'll have to chance on another striker.

RE: Bishop's season haul - Pompeyg100 - 15-03-2023

A striker at this level seems to be a gamble from season to season.

Take £5m and vastly improve other areas of the squad doesnt show a lack of ambition to me.

RE: Bishop's season haul - Deebo - 15-03-2023

Funny old game innit. Who’d have thought when I was watching him at Leamington he’d be talked of as a £5m Championship player. Good on him. He’s been a real success story for us and just what we need. A good old fashioned centre forward who knows where the net is. His finish yesterday didn’t get the attention it deserved. It was superbly clinical.

RE: Bishop's season haul - Pedalo_menders - 15-03-2023

We wasted the Lowe and Clarke money. It doesn't really matter how much we would get for Colby, if we can't replace him properly. If you can get 3-5M it's a good deal for us financially but only if we have at least 2 better strikers lined up.

But the people who spent that money aren’t at the club anymore.

Gerry, Corporal Punishment scored 46 goals in season 92/93 not 48. 42 league & 4 league cup.
Walshie got player of the season mind!!

That's an excellent website, N.  - a real treasure trove of data. I'm amazed that Ray didn't bag more than 20. I have wonderful childhood memories of celebrating his many goals in a rockin Fratton Park in the early 70's.

We're right Gerry & wiki is wrong. One of my fav ever seasons.

RE: Bishop's season haul - slayer - 15-03-2023

We will definitely sell him this summer. He's a cut above League 1 and the fee would be a full rebuild budget.

It's like the Crouch sale.

RE: Bishop's season haul - Isaac Hunt - 15-03-2023

John Weddle scored 20 plus in 5 different seasons

RE: Bishop's season haul - Isaac Hunt - 15-03-2023

Billy Haines scored 30/33/27/42/26 in 5 seasons

Blow money on maybe's.

We've got the real deal here.

20 goal a season strikers aren't easily found.

RE: Bishop's season haul - briefcase_wanchor - 15-03-2023

If you listen to the most recent Cullen interview then the only way they see of preparing for the Championship and avoiding significant owner investment of millions is to cash in on the assets. He cited Luton, Huddersfield, Brentford as all doing this over the past few years with success. Bishop is the only 7 figure player we have so good chance he’ll be off.

Every move is a risk. How many strikers have scored 20+ in consecutive seasons in L1 recently?

RE: Bishop's season haul - Hammie - 15-03-2023

The keyboard warriors would be up in arms if we sold Mark Hateley these days.
That one sale paid for Alan Ball to build the most consistent team I watched in a Pompey shirt.
Do that again and I'd be quite happy thankyou.

These days you could probably sell him and loan him back at Christmas after he sat on the bench for months in the champ.

Not many.

Getting a quality striker is massive - we have one!

We sell him we go backwards.

Who's to say we'd even spend all the money we get for him.
