Ogilvie - Hammie - 09-04-2023

Second top scorer for us
Who would have predicted that?

Says a lot about the weak performance of our various wingers and more attacking midfielders this season. Especially as Ogi is not a set piece taker.

RE: Ogilvie - West Australian Portsmouth Fan - 09-04-2023

Other left backs that used to score goals include Matt Taylor and to a lesser extent Nadir Belhadj but yes I agree with what you are saying

RE: Ogilvie - West Australian Portsmouth Fan - 09-04-2023

Also Louis Noe Pamarot he scored and absolute scorcher against Newcastle

RE: Ogilvie - Hammie - 09-04-2023

I think it was the Leeds left back who scored a shed load of penalties at one time. Ian .... ??

Ian Harte?

RE: Ogilvie - West Australian Portsmouth Fan - 09-04-2023

Harte was also a free kick specialist so I’m guessing it was him

Thanks for the reminder, a good defender and what a handy source of extra goals. I remember him in the same bracket as Cooper the keeper who saved so many pens. ie Match Of the Day when clubs often had players who stood out for one particular extra skill.

RE: Ogilvie - Sharpe* - 10-04-2023

First half of the season I thought he was amongst our most consistant performers - always a 7.

Dropped a little bit for a while but he's picked up again.

Good stuff!

RE: Ogilvie - Northstander - 10-04-2023

Speaking of left backs John Beresford scored 8 goals for us in 107 appearances.

What about George Ley?

Actually we've had some damned good performers at left back down the years.
I'd throw in Colin Sullivan who had to work hard to turn around the crowd and then became a real favourite.

RE: Ogilvie - Northstander - 10-04-2023

Yes he did Hammie and it was good to see him in the legends parade

Yes indeed WA, 10 goals in 184 appearances.

That was George Ley (10 goals in 184 apps). Matty Taylor scored 23 in 178, he was a bit of a legend actually. He scored a Premier League goal of the year once, I know it was nominated anyway

RE: Ogilvie - Northstander - 10-04-2023

Matty Taylor at the age of 41 played for Abingdon Utd yesterday in a 3.1 win in the Hellenic Leauge. I heard he was yellow carded for a robust challenge Lol

I’m 42 born in the same year as him and he’s putting me to shame. My back is in really bad shape and it hurts just to walk never mind run around playing football :-(

RE: Ogilvie - Hammie - 10-04-2023

talking full backs, so far Hume looks like a bit of a waste of money, hopefully ha can prove himself but looks no more than average

RE: Ogilvie - bluetagagain - 10-04-2023

John Beresford weighed in with a few.
