The Mous era begins. Onwards and upwards

RE: Will Norris in - TBP - 14-06-2023

Solid enough track record.

Just over 125 league appearances at 29, reaching 30 soon after the season starts.....the jury is out on this one until he proves otherwise.......

I just hope we have a half decent No.2 lined up ......

A 3 year deal is a bit concerning too, a 1 year to prove himself plus another after xx appearances strikes me as a better option.

11 clean sheets out of 24 for Peterborough seems OK.

You can’t blame a keeper for every goal conceded just as you can’t attribute every clean sheet to the keeper.

Time will tell.

On paper this is a solid start to the transfer window. Experienced first team ready L1 keeper. It also puts us in a,much stronger position to negotiate with Luton. If Macy doesn't arrive, it'll be a bit of a gamble given Olly isn't quite ready just yet.

I would be very surprised if we were still in for Macy as either keeper wouldn’t want to be a bench warmer.
Also I understand that Macy’s wages have gone up as Luton have been promoted so that could have been a sticky point.

RE: Will Norris in - slayer - 14-06-2023

Experienced lanky coont signed on a perm. I like everything about this deal.

We won’t be signing them both

RE: Will Norris in - blueandwight - 14-06-2023

Anyone reckon we need two experienced goalkeepers?
Does any club in League One need two experienced goalkeepers?
It should be a no brainer.
Let's get Macey in and show some genuine ambition.

Because there were better options out there that wouldn’t have cost anything.

You’re clutching at straws if you want to judge the clubs ambition on if we sign an experienced keeper who won’t play.

Macey is on Prem wages now.

RE: Will Norris in - Hammie - 14-06-2023

and for Macey, turning down prem wages would be very hard, which is what a move would cost him.
Probably be out on loan somewhere, possibly to us.

RE: Will Norris in - dsmg - 14-06-2023

Don’t understand why Macey’s wages will have changed. Surely he’ll be on a contract unless they’ve just upped it which seems unlikely as they didn’t appear to want him last season.

You'll find that modern "professional football  player contracts" have promotion & relegation  clauses written in them in that if the club is promoted their salary goes up by xx% or if they are relegated goes down by xx%.

This is regardless of whether that player is playing in the first team or not - this is precisely why players have agents sorting out the deal.

They’ve just been promoted to the premier league, his contract has a wage increase.

Supposition or fact?

Precisely. It may well feature in his contract but at third choice it seems highly improbable to me

Do you think it says 3rd choice keeper in his contract?

It’s a standard clause, not sure why it would be so hard to believe.
