I suspect it is £1k a week more than anyone is going to pay him. I shouldn’t imagine neither him or the club are sharing details of the contract though.

I think that,( hopefully) on his return , he will want to prove himself, and fight for his shirt.
This sobering period on the touchline will have afforded lots of thinking time for a professional sportsman.

During a contract a player will get his full basic wages whilst injured, but miss out on any playing bonuses etc.
The issue here is that Curtis is out of contract so the club could just discard him to the job queue with no income whilst he was injured. In that respect 1k a week is generous, but that is the sort of offer I would have expected if the club did not really want to keep him but accepted some duty of care for someone getting injured whilst working for them.
If you want to keep him when he is fit then I would have thought a more attractive offer was called for, and for someone with his level of service to the club just extending his contract by 12 months would seem the obvious thing to do.
All this assuming of course that the reported 1k a week offer is genuine, but it was discussed in the News.

He’s released a statement along the lines of not accepting the contract on reduced terms because he can’t afford to support his family but he is staying with the club until fit without a contract or salary.

There was no contract offered before he got injured.
Sounds like the contract wasn’t lower whilst he recovers as he says he can’t survive for 12 months on reduced terms.
He’s either going to get fit and move on or hope we offer a better contract once fit.

He hasn't really rediscovered his early form and maybe could fo with a new challenge.
I wouldn't be against him staying but not really fussed if he moves on.
He has been a good servant to the club.

It's the last sentence that lead me to believe he hasn't had the surgery yet. In typical The News style, it is poorly written so that it is ambiguous.

We know what he is capable of and we know he can improve. He is a known quantity. This injury affects his market value in our favour. No one else is offering him anything. Only Pompey could dither in front of such an open goal

We saw pictures of him in the hospital bed just post-op back in March, so he has definitely had the op.
Seeing the surgeon for progress reports is part and parcel of any recovery period.
