Europa F.C. Friendly - mikey393 - 05-07-2023

Tomorrow night against a team from Gibraltar in a very small ground. Capacity: 800 outside Malaga hidden in a forrest!

Sounds like it could be a nightmare for any fans going.

Be interesting to see what team JM puts out on an artificial pitch.

Let's hope we don't pick up any injuries.

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - BilltheCat - 05-07-2023

Quite a few supporters there already, I believe.

Meeting in a pub in Fuengirola, and coaches organised for the drive to the ground.

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - mikey393 - 05-07-2023

Sounds like a plan!

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Hammie - 05-07-2023

Don't like the sound of a plastic pitch, as you say injury wise.

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - bluetagagain - 05-07-2023

They’ll be playing H&W on an artificial surface

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Hammie - 06-07-2023

ditto

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - BilltheCat - 06-07-2023

1-0 Bishop (pen)

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Daniel - 06-07-2023

Rafferty and sculley both off injured

Precautionary or crocked?

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - FiftyYearsOn - 06-07-2023

Either way it brings back early memories of last season’s injury nightmare particularly as Rafferty seems to be injury prone and Scully only played 5 games last season. Hopefully just a precaution but is it wise to play friendlies on artificial turf I wonder?

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - slayer - 06-07-2023

If they're going to break down, best get it out of the way now

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Theyak2 - 06-07-2023

Like Rafferty but his injury list details must be playing on his mind.
Sculley may well be precautionary, we must hope he is over his hernia (?) Problems

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - mikey393 - 06-07-2023

Sculley impact injury it says hopefully not too bad.

30C temperature on a ropey plastic pitch miles from anywhere!

Sounds like bad club planning playing a semi-pro team from Gibraltar.

Makes you wonder whether they could have played Malaga who have a decent pitch easily accessible.

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Hammie - 06-07-2023

sounds like Hume did a decent job of putting himself in the shop window, or hoping a left side gets injured and he gets to stay and show what he can do.

It’s a pre season kick about, no more no less.

It gives the players a chance to get used to playing with each other and for fringe players to stake a claim.

That’s it.

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - blueandwight - 06-07-2023

Overall the game itself sounds like a pretty pointless exercise

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Pedalo_menders - 07-07-2023

Reading the comments afterwards they sound like a bunch of coonts. Not sure we'll play them again any time soon.

Why????

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Hammie - 07-07-2023

Sounds like a bad choice of opponents for our first warm up game, sounded far too physical for this early in pre season.

Even if it was, how would you know beforehand?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

RE: Europa F.C. Friendly - Hammie - 07-07-2023

Hopefully with hindsight we'll go somewhere else next time.
and perhaps consider that a calf strain being sort of expected, suggests the weeks work might have been a little too much for first week back?

All Agreed Gaffer but definitely Not sure about the opposition or the ground.

Would like to hear any views from someone who went to the game if they've got out of Linekers in Fuengirola yet!

Hibs are playing them today at the same ground I believe.

Sounds like they have a wealthy owner offering incentives to play them.

Not sure they have a wealthy owner. More likely heavily subsidised by UEFA!

Bear in mind that Gibraltar's total population is just over 30,000 and most of them live in tower blocks in a tiny slither of land between the base of the Rock and the port. Very similar to the area of Buckland, Landport, the City Centre, Portsea and Somerstown combined!

Yet somehow they support a league of 11 professional and semi pro clubs. Europa get around 200 fans, Lincoln Red Imps a few more and the rest barely 100. Lincoln seem to qualify for the Champions League qualifying rounds every season - their main claim to fame being a 1-0 win against Glasgow Celtic. Europa are regulars in the Euro Conference League. Next week Lincoln play a side from Azerbaijan while Europa visit Kosovo. Every away match involves a flight via London with who knows how long a wait for a connection? How the hell are such fixtures financially sustainable?

Am certain that UEFA ensures that the TV money from the Euros and the big 4 leagues (England, Germany, Italy and Spain) effectively subsidises the minnow leagues so clubs from Andorra, Faroes, Liechtenstein, San Marino, Kosovo, Cyprus, Malta, Moldova, Estonia etc can afford to play all over Europe. Similarly, their national teams as well as under 21s, under 19s etc. Despite all the hype and global attention around the so called Champions League, the biggest club match in history (in financial terms for the clubs themselves) was the play-off final between Luton and Coventry! Only because UEFA don't get their grubby hands on the money involved!

Wow, an interesting and informative post.

Now let's get back to to the insults and personal abuse...
