Second new loan player incoming? - BigSmokeBlue - 21-07-2023

21 year old Tino Anjorin of Chelsea. The England under 20 attacking midfielder was seen at Pompey’s training ground on Friday. Doesn’t have a great injury record, but a quality player at this level.

Meh

In a related note, are the owners going to wise up and realise there are fucking amazing players available on the south coast if they just decided to go to war with Chelsea and the scummers.

Grow some testicles and set us up to develop our own mason mounts.

Had some injuries but I’d rather gamble on a loan then a permanent. Loans are all about supplementing the squad rather then being the core of a squad how Cowley used them

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Pompeyg100 - 22-07-2023

This sounds like it could be an excellent signing, young but played men’s football and very highly thought where he has played.

Equally could be a not excellent signing so let me get the ball rolling with moan moan moan moan moan

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Daniel - 22-07-2023

I’d rather we tried to get Jenson weir on loan from Brighton.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - slayer - 22-07-2023

Maybe we have tried to.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Hammie - 22-07-2023

On the whole, I would prefer to get young loans from within say 60 miles (London ish) cos so many of the youngsters miss mummy and want to go home.

This will be down to Jon Harley using his Chelsea contacts & No doubt watched at their Cobham training ground.

Surely, this is what we've been working at for some time & opens the door for potential other loans & signings.

Chelsea have the best Academy in the country & the most loan players than any other Prem League club.

Good positive move.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - BigSmokeBlue - 23-07-2023

Don't get your hopes up folks. Reading fans on their forum believe they are on the verge of signing Tino on loan for the season.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Hammie - 24-07-2023

Talking Chelsea, they will have some Portsmouth youngsters. Judging by how many leaflet go u to local schools every half term. Be nice if we could get some of them back, even on loan.

Must've been a lot of beer.

It's been said by Pompey in the very recent past that the costs involved with doing this do not currently add up and that it's much cheaper to allow others to develop the talent and then buy them in.

For every Mason Mount there are literally hundreds and hundreds who never make it as a pro.

0.5% of under 9s in youth academies make it to a first team.
1 in 200 academy players make it to the top flight.

There are 3,500 boys in Premier League Academies. So you're pinning your hopes that the 3,501st makes it as a Mason Mount.

I would dispute the best academy in the country tag for Chelsea.

The biggest maybe, and certainly the most going out on loan, but not that many success stories given the size of the operation.

But more importantly they destroy the dreams of more young men than any other club by throwing them on the dole queue at a young age ... the inevitable result of going for quantity rather than quality. And by taking youngsters from such a wide area they weaken the academies of all the clubs in the south and disrupt the family life of families across the south by causing so much travel and disruption for the kids and parents with little prospect of success at the end of it.

In short I would say they embody everything that it is wrong in youth football in this country.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Pompeyg100 - 24-07-2023

They stop these kids from playing for their school teams ffs. No 6,7,8,9 year old should be signing for a football club, it’s supposed to be fun.

Chelsea also run franchise academies that have nothing to do with the club save for the fact the trainers wear Chelsea tracksuit tops. They have one in Portsmouth that parents pay into think Chelsea actually give a feck about their kids.

Chelsea, like all the PL clubs, only have these academies to either stop others from signing them or as a way of subsidising the purchase of players that they actually want. The football league is stuffed full of ex-PL youngsters that we think have potential just coz they came from a PL club. A case in point bring kunnticliffe (sorry could resist one last dig at the useless dick.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - mikey393 - 24-07-2023

They're far from perfect agreed. But were probably one of the first Premier League side to build a large academy. You may remember the TV programme on them quite a few years ago. They received the best coaching & facilities then copied by Man City/United more recently Palace. Unfortunately it's cut throat from about the age of 10 but the kids know this so do the parents. Not saying it's right but that's the way it is until changed.
Pompey have fallen behind hence lossing the best talent so that needs to change from this season. Let's give local kids the chance to pay for their own club.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Pompeyg100 - 25-07-2023

Young kids may get told it but their minds don’t work like that. Listen to any podcast with a player that got cut from a club even up to the age of 21 and it devastates them, a lot find it very hard to cope.

Like Big Brother and all those other carp elimination programmes.

JM has been quoted as saying that Toni Anjorin has been at FP and that Pompey would love to take him on loan although we face competition from Reading and FC Voldenham? ( Dutch). Also another GK is very imminent, he’s hoping to have both players for the weekend if all goes to plan.

Two seasons on loan at Huddersfield but very few appearances.

He was on loan at Lokomotiv Moscow and scored in the Europa League before Huddersfield.

Only injuries kept him out.

He does seem to get injured a lot. We need 40 games out of him not the 10-15 we would be lucky to get.

1st was a metatarsal, could happen to anyone and then an ankle injury last season. He’s also played for Chelsea.

Chelsea would have binned him off if they had concerns. He’s apparently got a lot of interest from abroad.

RE: Second new loan player incoming? - Hammie - 26-07-2023

As far as London goes, Palace have been fantastic for many years as actually bringing youngsters through into their team.
Trouble is that locally, Pompey have been such a mess so often that you can't really blame local parents for looking elsewhere. Alan Ball bought through a great bunch of youngsters, later Awaf and Hards did a brilliant job from zero foundations.
