Deep, take a look at comments on Charlton's twitter account or their Into the Valley messageboard - their supporters' views on Bowyer seem to be incredibly similar to our opinions of Jackett. Route 1, players out of position, no plan b, etc.
We've suffered enough with that over the last four years seasons, do we really want to run that risk again? Plus, personally, I don't want to see some racist, bullying thug in charge at Pompey.
All managers attract criticism from the anonymous keyboard warriors but the fact that these can be read by everyone does not make them any more relevant than when it was just people moaning down the pub. Rather than take notice of fans comment I prefer to judge on the evidence of my own eyes, and every time I've seen Charlton play in the past few years they have played good football ... especially in this season's game at FP.

Now that would be a coup if we could appoint Wilder. Far better win percentage record than Coleman, but sincerely doubt he would drop two divisions. More likely to be snapped up by a Championship club.
Was Wilder not interviewed for the Pompey job some years ago, but we opted for Awfs instead?

Gaff, it really doesn't take more than a ten second Google search to dig out Bowyer's criminal past and although he's a mere amateur compared to the likes of Joey Barton, Marlon King or Nile Ranger, he's still got enough form to make him the sort of person I despise and would never want at the helm of Pompey. Forget his football (which many Charlton supporters think is forgettable by the way), he's a proven racist and thug and no argument is going to change those facts. Be your contrarian best on this but you aren't going to change my mind.

So, to both you and Punpkin:
I am obviously aware of the many incidents that Bowyer has been involved in, and I see evidence of thuggish behaviour but not of racism. Just because some of the people on the receiving end of his ill judged actions happen to be Asian, black or whatever, that doesn’t make it racist does it? If I punch a white man, it’s a punch, if I punch a black or Asian man, it’s a punch. Sadly, due to the current intersectional hierarchy of victimhood, race is brought into the equation.
If you look at where Bowyer was brought up, he would have had Asian and black friends and he would have had altercations with Asian and black men, it stands to reason.
All the time people like you parrot the ‘racist’ line, we are less likely to get the coherent society we all crave.
There are plenty on here whose past activities would not look good under today’s victimhood spotlight, but I suspect there are very few, if any, actual racists on here.

Gaff, absolutely everything you say there is hypothetical, you have no idea what Bowyer's childhood was like yet you set the narrative to suit your narrow viewpoint. 'Colour doesn't mean a thing' is probably the most stupid comment you have ever made on Pompey forums, and good god there are a thousand to choose from.
Unfortunately colour does mean a thing to so many people who suffer because of it. I'm no left-wing shrinking violet but even from my right of centre views I have witnessed racism on many occasions and hate all of those who advocate it. We should all get along regardless of colour, religion and the rest of it and that's the mantra I live my life by and brought my kids up likewise. At a stroke you've shown yourself to be way too stupid and dismissive of the whole situation to be able to properly discuss it.
Getting back on post - Coleman is a useless coont, Bowyer is a younger Jackett and Eddie Howe too expensive, so who comes in if (and it's still 'if') Pompey don't renew Jackett's contract?

Like so much in life though, it’s not that clear cut. This is from the Guardian, hardly a publication that would go easy on someone like Bowyer

I don't want a nice guy as the next manager, I want a coont who plays some attractive football and wins games. We've had Mr Nice for what seems like an eternity with his chewing gum and hands in his pockets doing nice interviews after a dicking at the Cobblers and look where we still are. If it means having a coont for the next manager to spice things up then so be it. Since when was Pompey "nice".
We won’t get anywhere until it dawns on the powers that be that you need to speculate to accumulate. Pay Chris Wilder what he wants and he would likely have us up in his first season and if not definitely his second.

Nigel Pearson would have been a much harder coont than Bowyer (who sounds plain nasty). Wilder should take the Celtic job if its offered to him, follow the Brendan Rogers template.
