RE: Bishop - DeepBlue - 01-12-2023

Back to OP ... the plus side of this injury is that no-one will be coming in to buy him in January

RE: Bishop - Sharpe* - 01-12-2023

Colby hasn't been that spectacular of late - drifting too deep and missing chances you'd expect him to score.

Not easy in fairness as he's often isolated and constantly fouled.

Will be interesting to see how Yengi gets on.

Big opportunity for him.

A good point, Deep. Good to remember that he won’t always be at Pompey. Life will go on.

RE: Bishop - Hammie - 01-12-2023

Yengi looks to need very different passes, ahead to run onto.
Which could be good if we can adapt, we do sometimes suffer from Bishop's lack of pace when we break.
But he is as good a finisher over a season as we are likely o get.

RE: Bishop - Cunninglinguist - 01-12-2023

I think we’ll be fine, as long as we now play to Yengi’s strengths. The ball can now be played over the top because he has the pace that Bishop lacks.
He did well until he got injured, let’s see if he can replicate that form.

RE: Bishop - Hammie - 02-12-2023

Need to get Yengi a first goal in a new time of leading the line. then hopefully he can really step up and give us time to get Bishop fit.
Yengi and Saydee should give us a physical and mobile"front 2" as well. Fingers crossed.

According to Mous', the outlook is better than they predicted for Colby as they were fearing terrible news.

It is looking like weeks, not months for Colby and he states probably a month out. Sending the scan for a second opinion but it looks like Colby could be back early January.

Hopefully getting a lot of bodies back from injury in the coming weeks.

Good news on Colby.

RE: Bishop - Cunninglinguist - 02-12-2023

Good news for Yengi.

A chance for an extended run in the team and an opportunity to stake his place. Competition for Bish would be good.

Seems a bit odd to be asking for a second opinion.

Not sure I'd be celebrating anything until the result of that is known, Mous may just be be trying to keep everyone positive and optimisitic.

RE: Bishop - Hammie - 02-12-2023

He said that there is old scar tissue to take into account.
I doubt he would have said anything about a month or so, if he was not pretty sure.

Good for Yengi and good for the team with Bishop coming back but his getting a decent run to see if he can do it.

RE: Bishop - Theyak2 - 02-12-2023

Yengi was a great focal point today and was unlucky not to score.
We looked better today than we have in ages.
Things look great with a raft of players coming back over the next few weeks month.

effectively a whole transfer window full of reinforcements already.
Whether Aussies take Yengi and Robertson is the big focus for the next window.

RE: Bishop - Cunninglinguist - 03-12-2023

As an NT fan pointed out, we’re one of the best sides they’d seen up there this season and we have a host of injuries.

We might have a good idea of who our best team is but we are really only as good as our back up players. We have to trust that we already have recruited well, that Yengi is going to do Bishops job, that Raggett is going to be a rock in defence…

RE: Bishop - Rocketman - 03-12-2023

The injury to Bish could even be a blessing in disguise. Although he will be vital to our success this season, having others having to step up to the plate for a number of weeks will be even better if it comes off. Our most successful years over the past 20 have been when we had goals coming from several/many in the team. The opposition can man-mark one player (Bishop) with 2 or even 3 of theirs, but they can't man-mark half a dozen of our players.

RE: Bishop - Cunninglinguist - 03-12-2023

Couldn’t agree more.

Just when they thought they’d sussed us out.

RE: Bishop - exgaffer - 03-12-2023

I agree that we were starting to rely on Bishop too much for our goal threat, with large swathes of games going past with us dominating possession but not troubling the opposition goalkeeper too much.

We now have a goal threat coming from all over the pitch and we can stretch sides easily, they just don’t know where the next threat is coming from.

Colby is a great player for us but maybe his absence for a few weeks is just what we need at this point in the season.

It might also teach us not to rely on him so much when he does come back.

He needs to be a potent weapon in our armoury (which he obviously is), but not the sole focus our attack.

RE: Bishop - Cunninglinguist - 03-12-2023

Eloquently put.

I’m not quite at ‘thank fuck he’s injured’ point, yet but it’s good to change things around now and again. It’s not as though he scores every game.

RE: Bishop - Hammie - 03-12-2023

and it might also mean we are prepared to sub him off when we need to change the type of attack against teams who "park the bus"

Very good point

Were the results of Colby's second scan / second opinion ever announced?

Yes it confirmed the first one, 3-4 weeks out I think.
