And YENGI scores ... ! - firqdays - 26-03-2024

Quick update hot off the press. our man Kusini YENGI has scored after 3 mins to put Australia 1-0 at half time in their fixture v Lebanion. ( Away)

Let's hope he doesn't have to return to Australia after the game as he is basically half way home !

Game is being played in Canberra due to safety issues in Lebanon and there being a large Lebanese population there. Yengi got a knock which needed to be bandaged but carried on. Substituted after about 65 minutes. Can't imagine he will play any part on Friday but should be good to go for Tuesday.

Sounds good Herman, as long as he comes back fit to go on Tuesday.

I would not have started him on Friday even if he makes it home, jet lag and all that.
Does depend on who is match fit by then of course. Saydee and Lang primarily.

Nice - getting in to a groove of getting on the end of crosses like that.

There is a price for every player, and Hateley's fee gave AB the finance to build an entire promotion team. Come to think of it, he spent that money very well indeed.

Mark Hateley only played for us in 1983/4 season - sold to AC Milan in the summer of '84.

We didn't get promoted until  the1986/7 season -a lot of the squad played in both seasons.

Nothing like the Peter Crouch money that TJC used to finance a whole promotion team in one season.

p s. KS goal for the Socceroos  was a Marquis special - off his shin !!

but a bit like Cook, the majority of the promotion side was here from his first season's recruiting in 84/85 (immediately post Hateley), then 85/86 and then 86/87, firstly he rebuilt the defence as we scored a few but conceded a lot. Bobby Campbell's team were lacking pace and getting old by then.

Everyone is allowed one cock up, at least he didn't cost too much unlike Rory Allen a few years down the line, but McGarbage was awful, I think we all agreed! The rest of his first team were pretty astute business, the best I'd ever seen in blue up til then.
