97th min winner - Theyak2 - 01-04-2024

For ipswich! Shame it wasn't Conor!

RE: 97th min winner - 66zoolane - 01-04-2024

It was his substitute though - and he came tearing back out to celebrate like they'd won the league

RE: 97th min winner - Hammie - 01-04-2024

Well they've pretty much won promotion, beating one of their main threats!
So good in so many ways, and a red card to boot.

RE: 97th min winner - D'Alessandro dreaming - 01-04-2024

Football was the winner there.

RE: 97th min winner - Cunninglinguist - 01-04-2024

I see two football fans on a regular basis over here (I live in France).

Bizarrely, one is an Ipswich fan and one is a Scummer.

I can’t begin to tell you how good this week is looking to pan out.

Don’t let me down, Mous! This could be the perfect week.

That really was a 6-pointer. Must be some heartbroken scummers tonight, eh Titchy?

RE: 97th min winner - Cleaver Greene - 02-04-2024

BBC reported a 97th minute winner against a 10 man Scum team.
1) A football match lasts 90 minutes, no more, no less.
2) they were only down to ten men from the 85th minute. If it was the first minute, maybe the headline would make sense.

RE: 97th min winner - dsmg - 02-04-2024

Looks alright to me, especially if as you say they used the term scum

RE: 97th min winner - bluetagagain - 02-04-2024

Chaplin booked after being subbed for celebrating on the pitch

1. A football match lasts 90 minutes plus whatever the ref adds on. It has always been thus. So if they have been playing for 97 minutes and a goal is scored then that goal is scored in the 97th minute of the match and there is nothing wrong in reporting that fact.
2. When they scored the winning goal it was indeed against a 10 man scum team, so again absolutely nothing wrong in reporting that fact that it was a 97th min winner against 10 men.

What rubbish! A 97th minute winner is exactly that. 90mins+7.

RE: 97th min winner - Cleaver Greene - 02-04-2024

The ref has two watches. (Or he should have when I did my FA refs course.)
One runs all the time, the other he stops when the ball is out of play or for an injury. That way he can say how much "injury time" is being played.
A football match lasts 90 mminutes, Its in the rules.

RE: 97th min winner - Cunninglinguist - 02-04-2024

Who cares?

90+7 is a lot funnier.

And the first of those watches, or it's equivalent, is the one used to time when goals are scored.

That measure of  elapsed time, whether measured by the stadium clock or the ref, is the only possible time that can be used to report the time of goals being scored because the ref is the person in the world who knows what the time on his other watch says.
