Jack has been with us for years, just because he was injured most of last season doesn't mean he wasn't here FFS, stop being so pedantic. Burgess left and Rasmus joined, everyone else was here. If you can't grasp that then thank god this isn't anything academic you have to get your head around.

Well said Wightblue but FFS don't let Deep know you don't really rate Johnson.

My last reply too.

We were comparing last season's squad to this year. Jack was not available last year ... that's not being pedantic, it's a simple fact. Being pedantic is claiming he should be counted for some reason just because he was on the books.

And for the record I don't rate Johnson so far as much better than average. But that is a lot better than the well below average Bolton, so a clear improvement on last year.

But the most compelling evidence of the improvement in the defence is that we have conceded 21% fewer goals at this stage - that takes away any subjective opinions of players because it is a fact that can't be denied.

I agree that Mnoga is a real prospect but has a lot to learn and acquire discipline so that he can better use his pace and strength going forward without heedlessly leaving a gaping space behind him.

I agree he needs to go out on loan but preferably to a side managed by someone who actually improves players - something our Kenny and his team seem incapable of doing, Curtis is a case in point, undoubted ability when he arrived but is still the same player albeit fitter.

I am trying hard to think of any of our current squad who has greatly improved his technique, positional sense, first touch etc etc under Jackett.
I remember how much The Yak and Benjani improved at Pompey thanks to some dedicated coaching - making curving runs instead of straight lines, sorting their feet out quicker, how to get onto knockdowns quickly and much greater tactical awareness of where a striker needs to hunt. I’m not a particular fan of Harrison or Marquis (well, most of the time) but I wonder how much they might improve given some real ‘strikers coaching’. If anyone can remember who worked with Yak and Benjamin then let Catlin know ASAP, we might just end up with the best ‘smash and grab’ strike pair in League 1
