Not really doing what he said he would do, eh?

The oldest company marketing trick in the book ‘ When your buying, tell them what they want to hear’, when the deal gets done ‘Do what you intended to do in the first place’

Whilst on ‘Gardening leave’ I spent a year in the Mergers & Acquisitions game - and it is a game wherein the innocent / unworldly / the fall-guys are taken to the cleaners by the smart operators.

For example, I doff my hat to Irene Rosenfeldt the Kraft CEO when Kraft bought Cadbury’s, told the key Cadbury shareholders, the Monopolies commission, the government, the employees exactly what they wanted to hear......and then did exactly the opposite when the deal was done.

It’s the way the game is played and Pompey’s former Shareholders / Fans may experience something similar (although I don’t think Eisner will move  Pompey to Eastern Europe !).

Can’t help but feel that the Pompey deal was a Pre-Pack and that the individual shareholders were led by the HNWs who had after all been instrumental in the original saving of The Club and were perhaps feeling that the time had come to pass the reins and financial responsibility to someone else.

I was living in SoCal during the four odd years of rescue and takeover went by and took minimal interest but: Were M&A specialists employed ? Was a Sale Memorandum prepared and circulated widely amongst potential buyers, how was the Eisner deal brought to the attention of the shareholders ?

Water under the bridge now of course but of passing interest none the less.

Brick by brick.....the club is being dismantled.

4 years and fuck all progress. In fact it's regression.

Cheer up they're going to drop a vaccum mould over the top of the Milton soon and it's going to look a million bucks.

Only Pompey could be neglected by a strong of terrible owners and then get neglected by a fucking billionaire

The Lord said “Smile, things could be worse”

So I smiled and Lo, they were worse !

It’s The Pompey Way.....but don’t worry, Deepblue will soon be along with words of wisdom straight from The Eisner Playbook

I never like to disappoint so ......

"slowly moving up without putting the whole business at risk.’" is precisely what they have done.

Lots of reasons in that article for why I did not vote for them ... mainly it being a plaything for his family ... but in hindsight I don't think we would have much of the ground open now or have survived covid debt-free without out them so maybe the majority were right. Whatever, I've learnt to live with them and while they are in charge we should give them support, because I do fear the abuse they are getting on social media will drive them away and leave us at the mercy of the type of owner we have had before to plunge us back into debt.

Running the club as a sustainable business is what I enjoyed about fan ownwership, and I'm not going to criticise the new owners for basically doing the same (albeit also spending millions on the non-football side of things).

But we haven't moved slowly up Deep. We have regressed on the pitch. Is it a blip? Not in my view. It's the full period of their tenure.

Off the pitch I am even more disappointed. It's nearly been five years. I expected one stand to be nearing completion now.

How have we ‘regressed’?

More to the point, what is your alternative?

It’s all very well slagging off the owners but you need to put up a realistic alternative.

If we were still fan owned we would probably be going to wall now, if we had sold out to other, less prudent, owners we could also be in danger of financial collapse.

What is your brilliant plan to take us to the promised land?  Smile

RE: Interesting read - Pedalo_menders - 04-06-2021

The point is that the Eisners have added nothing since they took charge. I was initially incredibly excited to have someone with a profile and business acumen of Michael Eisner but we've seen none of that at Pompey.  I think what this shows, is that you dont have to be intelligent to be a billionnaire, you just talk shit until you get what you want.

On and off the pitch, its been a farce. Mistake after mistake after mistake. All the momentum we had is gone and its going to be a couple of seasons before we can challenge again. They asked us to judge them by their actions. Well after 4 seasons it's pretty fair to say its been shit so far.

What is the point of having $2,000,000,000 in the bank if you cant use a tiny tiny amount of that to capitalise on a market where players will never be cheaper to acquire. Nah, we'll just let Wigan out muscle us and get in some non-league teenagers and some loans. Smart business that, brilliant.  40% budget cut? fine, i'm reducing my contribution by 40% too (im feeling petulant).

And before the usual suspects pop up with "BUt wErE In A paNdEMiC  wItH No INComE". I am aware. Tornante owns both Topps and Pompey. What is the point of that structure if you cant offset one against the other to take advantage of market conditions? Isnt that the whole point of a diversified business? Make $1Bn on one, spend 4M on the other?

Rant over, i feel much better now  Big Grin

RE: Interesting read - Tomsk - 04-06-2021

What's all this bleating about not progressing anyway, I thought the only important thing, as expressed when Jackett was in charge, was to play more attractive football... win, lose or draw?

Septic there just reposting what has gone before.

Still I suppose after the embarrassing performance regarding the club accounts he's seen (you won't have seen them, the accountant he got them from goes to a different school) we should be grateful no extra words were added.
