Sponsorship - mikey393 - 09-08-2021

University of Portsmouth are currently our Main Shirt Sponsors.

Does anyone know how much longer the deal runs for & how much it's worth annually?

I've always thought that Pompey with our great tradition & huge support should be able to attract a Major Sponsor.

For some reason we have never managed to do this.

Is it lack of major Companies Not having their H.Q. in the area or is it being in Div 1 holding us back.

A lot of clubs have betting firms as sponsors as they're Cash Rich but surely there's an Online Company who'd like to get involved at the right price?

I work in Online Marketing & it's a subject which has continually mystified me.

I think it's a rolling one-year deal. I have wondered the same but at the moment I think the owners like the local connection (plus it brings scientific support.. that's worked well for us on the injury front!!) and are happy with the deal they get.

The Eisners chose Portsmouth Uni over larger and better sponsored company because they wanted to encourage young ‘ working class males’ to go onto FE or Uni as this is the largest failing ‘group’ in the Portsmouth area. Their reckoning is that a connection with PFC and Ports Uni will hopefully change that.

Thanks both, that explains things a lot better.

It's good to know that they are into encouraging the local youth & student market.

It's certainly put the Uni on the Worldwide Map.

In this very Commercial Football age it's good to know that our owners have a Social conscience & it's Not just about hard cash!

RE: Sponsorship - JIMBON - 09-08-2021

Although huge number of clubs have betting firms on their shirts (I think it was around 60% of Prem and Championship) there is a big downside on that as you can not sell club shirts with the betting sponsors logo on its junior sizes. Normally they are just left blank but I believe our nearest neighbours have a betting company on their shirts and Utilita on their children's shirts, far from sure any of that helps sales but I expect the higher sponsor income outweighs lower shirt sales.

Whatever the description above of the Eisners ideas around education and local deprivation in this area suggests they would never take the betting buck.

I didn't realise that Jimbon thanks for your input.

i don't mind them as a sponsor. but hate all sponsors logos that are so much bigger and more obvious than the club badge.
