When you analyse the business, with limited resources, Cowley has done over the last three months its difficult to know exactly where we stand. The reason for that is although we've lost two or three quality players, in my view, overall we clearly have a stronger squad than last season certainly in terms of numbers and, most importantly, experience. Will it be enough? Who knows. Clearly he has a lot of work to do in order to provide more goal scoring opportunities.

It’s not just a case of providing more goal scoring opportunities it’s also about having the players who are able to take maximum advantage of those opportunities. On the latter the evidence so far this season is not good.
Yesterday was a missed opportunity by the club and owners to address the issue. An opportunity they failed to take. We now have to wait and see the consequences of that failure over the course of the season.

I’m not quite so downbeat as I think a lot of good work has been done to freshen up a desperately stale squad but that could all be undone unless Ahadme can come of age really fast and score the goals the rest of our toothless attack are incapable of.

I understand the Cowleys thinking behind having four or five U21 players, however I think the cost involved may have been better spent on a decent striker. Harrison is abject and Hirst doesn’t really fill me with promise and as for the free scoring Marquis !!!. I just hope we can stay in the pack until January then concentrate on getting a striker
