Should have been 3-2 Piggott... Not handball.
We are miles away from the top 6 teams.

James Norwood had a good game, shame we never tried getting him in the summer.

This game showed that we’re just not good enough. Very ordinary performances, all over the pitch.

If we want to get promoted we need to be as good as Barnsley, they usually end up there or thereabouts.
Sort of sums up how the finances are set up to favour relegated teams. Looking like 8th and rebuild for play off push next year.

Effectively the starting line-up has been the same for three games and they have been rubbish until some substitutions have been made.

Very disappointing performance.
A fantastic opportunity to get within 6 points of them wasted.

The commentators before the game mentioned our away form still being pretty ordinary, that was one thing that Kenny got right. Not entertaining away from home but effective.

We have a real problem that we can all see. The teams coming down from the championship and the big spenders are the majority of the top 6. Gone are the days when it was just us and Sunderland.
We need some real, on the pitch investment for next season or we could be in the same boat this time next year.

Agreed, way off the top six. No real pace on the break. No real pace up front. Seem to run out of ideas going forward. 0 shots on target, 0 shots off target first half. Deja vu.
Can’t afford passengers like Scarlett either. Runs around a lot without impact. I only remember him putting one tackle in all game. Hopefully this lack of pace is being addressed now by our sporting director. Sheffield Wednesday is now a must win ?

Did anyone really think we’d beat Barnsley tonight ?

In fact it would be interesting to see our average point return from games in Yorkshire since 1970! Especially midweek. Respect to the fans who travelled yet again, especially with snow possible on the journey home.

We just are not good enough this season. We have the ability but only occasionally. Hopeful for next season though.

I know you’re most probably right but it’s never over til the fat lady sings.
Unless it’s a fat lady singing competition.

First real mistake from the manager tonight. I don't think this was the time to start Lowery. I would have gone for softer opposition at home or blooded him back in after 60 mins

Sadly we are not one of the top 6 teams in this division and Barnsley are, so this was an entirely predictable result (in fact I did predict it this morning).
Nobody who was at the Plymouth, Lincoln or Cambridge games could possibly delude themselves into thinking we are a top six side, we are not. Obviously you hope that we will turn up on the night and overturn the odds but it was not to be. We are two or three players short of being a promotion team but if we recruit well in the summer we will be there or thereabouts next season. Having said all that, hope springs eternal and you never know . PUP

His commitment to Scarlett and Dale can be viewed as mistakes and his lack of interest in Pigott likewise. He has brought in a good goalkeeper and a good defender, though.

Scarlett is miles out of his depth. Young though.

Wow, all viewing this different ways, and counter-comments coming through.
For my two-pennyworth I think the whole team looked awfully jaded, basically tired. We kept playing everything down the right - leftwing did not exist. And, sorry Scarlett does not look fitted for fighting top end of Div One football- surprising that he has not had more of an impact. However, if people like Morrell make such a horrible error you just know it is not going your way. But, ever the optimist, and as I have said before, football can easily turn so beware you Owls ........

what a change of attitude towards them from Cheltenham's thrilling match.
Some guys here are so fickle.

Not fickle just an honest assessment. Cheltenham are an average side
Barnsley are championship quality team with a squad that is a result of the necessary investment to back up a promotion push. We sadly are not. |
