Looks like the new telly gantry is going up quite quickly.

Ha.
I'd hate to speculate on the bridge without hearing more of that "brick by brick" malarkey.

One pitch at training ground shaved, sanded & reseeded - grass looks to be growing nicely. Another pitch & a half shaved, sanded & reseeded.
Youth team pitch & a half shaved, coarse sanded & currently being smooth sanded, reseeding to follow. Workmen have been in players gym area in main building for last few weeks - seems to have stepped up a gear recently.

A few hundred seats will go behind the dugout when the cameras go to the gantry.
They need to squeeze more seats in.

The Camaras that were behind the dugout should be relocated to the gantry now which is where they said more seats were going to go once the gantry was fitted They won’t go as in disappear That’s where they will go when the cameras are moved!

OK . understood now. Not sure there will be any change to camera angles that low though ... though tbh I didn't know we had any cameras positioned as low as the behind the dugouts.

All part of moving up a Big Step into the Championship.
We'll be generating a lot more TV money, more hospitality & extra ticket revenue. But there's a long way to go with only a 20K ground capacity which needs upping to 25K. Once expanson starts hopefully BR & the council will see the light & dip in their pockets for the "Bridge"! Parking will become a huge problem & the Good Companion unlikely to cope with the extra away supporters. Sponsorship & merchandising needs to be increased on a much higher level. Does anyone know when our Main Sponsor deal expires? I expert the Uni are most probably paying peanuts but do understand the Supporting the Community stance. Players wages will be increasing ona large scale so sponsorship revenue needs to expand in line. No Betting Sponsors though.

As regards the university
they are building more show ff buildings while at the same time making staff redundant, so they can do one thanks. Let's be brave and just have Pompey on the shirt. How much does the shirt sponsor actually make, how much per player or shirt sold?

I'll try & find out ( it may be in the last accounts ). I would have thought the Uni would have been on a 5 year deal probably worth around £250 -300K in total. Any longer would be sheer madness. We should be looking at a minimum of £250K per season & expect Leeds are probably getting £500K + per season via Boxt boilers. To give you an idea Man City & United generated each around £300M/season from Commercial activities. I like your sentiment but to compete with the Championship Big clubs we need to step up to the plate.

Just looked at last published accounts & shows: Income from sponsors and partners £901,177.
Looks like I've underestimated so would guestimate that the Uni were paying £500K/yr. £400k from all the other sponsors. Hospitality generated £1.1M approx. The new accounts are published on 30/06/24 so should make interesting reading.

Would we want to avoid any particular type of sponsor. For instance gambling. Which at least the university is not a bad option. With the long links to the navy and the problems with recruitment, they should put the RN flag on there!

Regarding parking the should be trying to utilise the massive car parks by St John’s playing fields just off the a27 and use that as a match day park and ride. Sponsorship deals need to massively increase income on what they are now. Listening to the Cullen interview with Andrew moon there sounds like a much better kit supplier deal is happening not sure if that’s with Nike or another brand

It was Mr. Eisner himself that chose Portsmouth Uni so I would imagine another altruistic choice as sponsor unless he attracts an American company. I doubt very very much it’ll be a gambling company especially as the Prem is clamping down on that.

I would have loved to use the uni a bit like the Americans use it for scholarships as I’m guessing there would be some decent footballers that go to that university. Tie them in to the club while paying for there university.

I've said No Gambling Cos in my previous post as It's irresponsible & the PL & the EFL need to tighten up the ruling.

They offer a 3 year scholarship programme to one student/year it looks like with all tuition fees paid & work experience at the club. Students can also buy match day tickets at a reduced rate of £16 last season. It was a very good choice at the time which it seems was revamped in 2021 to include the women's team but doesn't state for how long on what terms. Hopefully, there's a clause built in to increase their payments on an annual basis with a promotion clause. I have a distinct feeling we have them now until the 2026-27 season but may be wrong.

I can see no reason to want to move away from the Uni sponsorship, they are are good fit for the community image and seem to be paying the going rate. No reason to think they would not continue to pay the going rate as and when the deal comes up for renewal.
I take Hammie's point about cuts in staff though. But in reality running costs and advertising/sponsorhip are two different budgets and need to be managed properly and separately. You could even argue that without the advertising & sponsorhip money producing the growth the cuts to running costs might have to be even more severe. |
