You pay peanuts, you get monkeys. And this team is stuffed full of monkeys.

A spineless squad that includes utter shit like Blair, potts, Murphy, Williams and o'mahony. Players moose signed but won't give more than a farts-worth playing time like kamara and Ritchie. And untouchables who are clearly struggling with confidence like pack.

Still early days but the lack of fight and togetherness in this team is non existent. No ideas or pride.

Extremely harsh to lump Potts and O'Mahoney in with the others and Murphy too (when he's not at wing back). Potts has looked throughly decent in a few games despite the Pack shaped handicap alongside him. I don't think we could have asked a whole lot more from O'Mahoney early on. He's competed well and scored a couple of goals when he's played.

No different to following Pompey in the early 70s. Getting shat on away from home on a regular basis and the team was piss poor but managing to scuff to 35 points surviving for half a dozen seasons.

The difference was the club was skint or at least the board was.

I've no idea if it's pack that's the problem, but I thought potts was awful - like the other pl u23 dross that has made our team so weak and passive. O'mahoney (Oxford goal aside) has been a headless chicken from the get go. They bounce off men like a tennis ball hitting a racquet.

Unfortunately without a reserve team to work out these problems we are chucking in overpaid kids straight into the first team and perform miracles.

I just want the team to try.

Mousinho will take us down sadly. We need an experienced tactically astute manager to keep us up.

Pack is the problem unfortunately. The shape has been all wrong which hasn't helped Pack and Potts. Pack doesn't have the legs to be in a midfield two, Potts does but is often basically in a midfield one having to cover extra ground and getting overrun. Aside from Stoke and tonight though he's looked decent enough when he has played.

I think O'Mahoney has been basically fine. He's playing up front for a very poor side that is creating the thin end of fuck all and works hard.

I think the jury's still out on Poole since his injury. My list of good quality Championship players is Lang.

Recruitment is looking dire. Too many kids trying to learn their trade. Williams is a terrible player, silvera can’t even get on the pitch, Kamara .. a millionish pounds and sat on his backside.. Sorensen.. dear god he’s useless. Dreadful squad development.

Watching Colwill dance around our players like he was the pro on strictly was extremely painful. Nobody came away with any credit with the exception of Archer - in truth Cardiff should have been out of sight before we responded. They were first to everything with Pompey players bouncing off them like Depeche Mode facing the All Blacks. I think there was effort, especially from the subs (Devlin, Yang, Saydee of course) especially in last 20 with the cause lost - but there's little steel and precious little invention...I feel sorry for Potts (agreed -needs some back up) and Sorenson (out of his depth). Mouse has to come up with a stronger midfield somehow or we continue with isolated forwards and a besieged, unconfident defence.

352 worked for a game and a half for Cowley, looking the same again.
If we are doing that then Towler would be better, but it pulls murphy away from being one of our best players.
Back to basics.

It's strange because Poole was absolutely excellent in his first start of the season against Burnley, since then though he has looked really rough.

Poole’s og was appalling, and shows that the back line is not working as a unit.

The defending for the second was pathetic, the way Robinson was allowed to get to that ball unimpeded was criminal.

Lots of work to do on the training ground and that’s just the defence.

We look very poor and would have been better off keeping last season’s side.

Still, hope springs eternal as they say.

Very interesting being amongst the Bluebird supporters last night (I live in Cardiff and was given a ticket) and listening to their quite balanced (they were 2 up and cruising so were inclined to be generous) observations about Pompey that:

We only had one strategy. A few sideways/back passes at the back and then a hopeful lofted ball forward
That Pack (who they applauded) was definitely past it
That Murphy had bags of talent but goes missing
That Poole was a decent player
That Yengi was better than Lane - 'why didn't they start with him?'
That Sorenson was hopeless
That we were better than Plymouth
That we started playing around the 50th minute

It was obvious to most people that unless we sneaked a couple of extra players on the pitch we were going to get nothing, only wasteful finishing and a few good saves from the gk stopped being a horror score.
But I  admire your optimism i just need to be on what you were on whilst watching it last night Big Grin Big Grin
