Finished 4th playing the most boring brand of football imaginable.
This must have been the worst Championship Play-Off Final played at Wembley and the entertainment level was as close to nil as you can get. That must have been an effing longtrip back to Yorkshire last night!
I'm not disputing that they (Scum) won't enjoy some benefits of another year in the Premier League. They'll sell plenty of season tickets (largely to see the opposition) and as someone pointed out to me the £125 million will make a hole in their overall debt. To be honest I'm not sure how the parachute payments work with yoyo clubs...anyone know?
The flip side is that their whole season has been built on tippy tappy football relying on five or more Premiership loan players who won't be there next year. Premier League clubs don't normally loan to other Premier League clubs. We're in a better position than them in the loan market. They will be odds-on to be relegated...be lucky to get twenty points or even twenty goals I should think! We can use 2024/25 to establish ourselves in the Championship and then we 'll be ready for them.
We've now got to get to work in the transfer market and this time we seem to be a bit slow of the blocks. I realise it's going to be more difficult building a squad, when we're still stuck with the likes of Whyte and Scully, but we got promoted nearly six weeks ago and it would be reasonable to see some business by now. I think it will be best focussing on the better players in League One because if you concentrate on the Championship the players won't take the type of pay cut that fits with our sustainability approach that would wreck what appers to be a reasonably happy dressing room. We've got three key areas to concentrate on....League One players, the foreign market and top quality loans from Premier League.
Have no fear we'll be OK, not sure about Scum though!!
Last time they were there they lost 25 times and won 5 games all season. Last season, with triple the budget of most of the rest it was nearly the opposite. Whatever money they get they will outstanding on expensive foreigners. So I don't care they went up. Just didn't like them winning at Wembley but that's it.
My heart sank when we drew them as a league 1 team a few years ago and I think we still need some work before we can keep up with the Premier league yo yo teams.
Leeds is a cracking night out too.
