Sorry about the font business - obviously senior/age related.

The NHS is ‘just coping’ because so many staff are currently off due to the testing mania currently gripping the country, nothing to do with people not being vaccinated.

People can’t get the treatment they need due to the total over reaction of lock downs and the suspension of already overflowing waiting lists.

Nothing to do with rudeness or selfishness, everything to do with bad decisions by the government prompted by the discredited SAGE modelling.

Even before the COVID fiasco the NHS was always in crisis during the winter months, due to poor planning and no resiliency in the system. Not the fault of the staff who have to work with this shambles, everything to do with bloated and incompetent management and a reluctance by government to reform the sacred cow that is the NHS.

People need to face up to the fact that the NHS is poor when compared to other health systems around Europe. It needs reform or it’s slow death will continue.

Gaffer ... are you seriously suggesting that hospital staff should be going into work with Covid ?  Or are you suggesting that they should not be tested so they don't know that they are infecting patients ???

Either way ... have you really thought this through ?

Guffer - Quite correctly the Government have asked the NHS workforce who are "key workers" to do daily  LFT Tests before they go in to work. What do you expect them to do just ignore the request or go in regardless and spread a highly contagious disease to people who are already ill in hospital?

All Health Systems around the World are under severe pressure - thank goodness we don't live in a country that charges for healthcare, the NHS is far from perfect, it needs a cross-party evaluation and action plan agreed to what needs doing to bring it into the21st Century.

I have close relations living in both Germany & Canada & I certainly wouldn't want to be paying what they have to pay !!

Good question Deep.

The problem is that the test and trace side of things, combined with the ‘symptoms’ side of the guidance results in a lot of staff being off when they don’t need to be. Those staff who are dealing directly with vulnerable patients are supposed to take ppe precautions anyway, so the risks are mitigated. Absence should be based on a positive test ONLY and the isolation period should be reduced imo. All other staff should be at work.

The current variant is, according to all the data, very mild and only the very sick are at significant risk from it. The very sick and/or immune compromised should be shielded, all the rest should carry on as normal.

It makes absolutely no sense paralysing the whole health system for a disease that is, for the vast, vast, majority of people a mild condition.

So yes, I have thought it through.

The collateral damage of this to sufferers of cancer, heart disease and other serious conditions will FAR outweigh any risk from COVID.

The question is, have you thought it through? You seem to be taking the simplistic view that COVID is the main threat, it quite clearly is not.

Gaffer  "only the very sick are at risk from it"

Aren't hospitals quite a good place to find the very sick ?  And you want covid infected staff to be looking after them ?

I refer you to my comments about ppe and shielding Deep.

There are thousands of very sick people who are going to die because they can’t get treatment because the NHS has become so ineffective.

There are far more of them than those affected by COVID. What do you say to them?

A lot of the elderly round here are finding it almost impossible to see their GP. Then, if they do get referred (often urgent referrals) they end up on a long waiting list. Some of them will be dead before they are called ffs.

I repeat, COVID is not the main threat. It’s not even in the top 10.

Much of that may be true ....  but it's definitely true that it is not a good idea to have covid infected staff looking after the vulnerable sick in hospital

I struggle to understand, how you cross the road on you're own.

Right, we've got to address your punctuation problem, which I've noticed throughout your multiple same-subject posts. I'm not sure why you continually put a comma in the middle of full-flowing sentences?

So, above you've written 'I struggle to understand, how you cross the road on you're own.'

Why is there a comma after understand? With that comma, you basically just said : 'I struggle to understand'
Then there was a pause before you completed the sentence.

If you're going to preach all this stuff, it's best not to start with 'I struggle to understand'

Just saying.

So, you're saying you did no lessons, but we should still listen to you over all the highly qualified medical experts and scientists constantly working around the clock on this stuff.

Okay, I'll weigh that up when I decide who to believe. Cheers!

(PS, dsmg - 'you're' was a quote :-) )

Its not about deaths, it’s about transmission and it’s about staff absences. There must be a YouTube vid somewhere that explains this.

So it's now about a mild virus that, because of government rules keeps staff off work even if they're not ill, thereby causing a major problem in the NHS.
Hmm now that's fucking sensible isn't it.
So we've kinda created the problem ourselves??

Its about the ease of transmission leading to mahoosive staff absences. I don't really know why you can't get away from the death angle, I didn't have you down as a goth. Smile

Well I do like Whitby, so there must be something of the Goth in me  Smile .

Seriously though, we are only in this shitshow because of the fear of death.

The current variant is mild and if everyone is off with such a mild condition we might as well put up the shutters permanently.
