There are two main caused for the immigration problems - climate change and deforestation leading to crop failures leading to unemployment and starvation,

The answer is financial, the affected countries need aid to provide new employment for the millions of farmers thrown into real poverty through no fault of their own.

The top 10 nationalities claiming asylum in the UK (according to the government website) are:

Iran, Eritrea, Albania, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

The vast majority of the claimants are young men, not the desperate families one might expect to be fleeing war.

Not all of those places are at war and the obvious motive for claiming asylum here is a financial one, since asylum could have been claimed in any number of countries between here and there.

If we just made it plain that NO illegal entrants will ever be allowed entry and only permitted asylum claims from legal claimants living close to the war zones, the farce in the channel could be solved.

 Considering we are about the furthest from the point of origin for most asylum seekers it's logical we will have the fewest applicants. Most genuine seekers will be very happy to settle in the first safe country they reach. hence the rest will reduce in numbers as they travel across Europe. Thats before they have to cross the bit of water called the English channel.
