Btw, the hoi-polloi means the exact opposite of what you think it does - its Greek for the masses. Time to stop shopping from Asda’s out-of-date trolley and fish out some of those maggots.

I shop at Waitrose because I like some of their food (their cheese for example).

I also shop at Aldi, Tesco, various ‘bargain’ stores, wherever they have what I want at a reasonable price.

We have plenty of laws to regulate animal welfare and retailing is retailing, some aim for niche markets, some pile it high and sell it cheap, some rely on appearing more virtuous, so as to attract others who wish to appear virtuous.

When shopping (which I regard as a necessary evil  Smile ) I just look at quality and price, I know that’s unfashionable these days  Big Grin .

Think what you like, your opinion means nothing to me, I don’t need to shop for shit from Asda to qualify for my working-class badge. Smirns, you’ve hitched your wagon to johnson long ago - how’s he doing looking out for those working class white kids?

Guff do you have a taste for horsemeat

Tuffs, there you go again, when have I hitched my wagon to Johnson? I cannot stand the buffoon nor the party he represents. As for working class kids, no fucker is looking after them within our current political machine .Too many distracted by other issues and self interest.

Wrong again,we dont shop at Asda - we use several different supermarkets or discount outlets  for non-food related iitems plus a little food & support local specialist shops for our meat, bread, seasonal fruit & vegetables whenever possible.

I rather like this from the Urban Dictionary on The Hoi Polloi

One of the great unwashed, term applied to a person who lacks culture, sophistication and class. Someone with a sheep's mentality, way behind in life.

Big Grin Also a proud Asda user, the one at Leigh Park being a proles paradise. Full of the sort of people that Owen Jones might describe as “shouty”! My people.

Lídl is an interesting one, a bit of a paradox in fact. Plenty of cheap prosseco and ready made meals for the unrepenting work class types but also an interesting line in niche products aimed at the aspiring middle classes. I also know some quite well off people who shop there on occasions although they choose to dress down "chav style" when they go so as to avoid being outed.

I’m going retro working class, a few archery lessons and it’s off to the local countryside to start taking out large, four footed mammals. Fresh organic meat! Robin Hood me right up!

Lidl and Aldi are great, until you get to the checkout (checkouts if you're lucky) and then it's a right old feckin pain in the arse

You’ve definitely got to get a move on Tomsk   Smile , you have to bung it all in quick then sort it out on the packing shelf.

It’s all about getting people through quickly isn’t it?

If I’m in a hurry I prefer it to places like Waitrose, where all the punters take a fucking age to pack and seem to want to chat to the checkout operator for ages. I tend to use the self service tills in there if I don’t want to spend hours hanging about.

But Ext, you said, and I quote: "you're a  lefty loser moosh, not a member of the hoi-polloi". That is why you're such a div.

You also said this, and I quote: "I find most everyday language swearing pathetic". But who then, said this: “Rescue Dog & Essentialmix and  any other non believing tosser”, or this: “so watch out yfc”, or this: “What is it like tossing yourself off all the time Jizzboy”, or this: “in other words to keep thick idiots like you informed ffs!”, or this: “you on the other hand yfc”, or even this (a little milder, granted): “spouts his usual uninformed sh!t again”.

So in your world, its ok to call someone a fucking coont, but you start squinnying when you're called out for being a div (or a din). What a fooking snowflake.

Apologies for not answering this earlier, reckon I've got the Omicron - all the symptoms but still negative LFT.

So you didn’t read the my post about using Aldi, Bargain Stores etc. and that I only use Waitrose for things like cheese then SS?  Smile

I also said my criteria were quality and price, what are yours, just cheap?

Tuffers is the one who shops in Waitrose on principle ffs.

Hope you have mild symptoms and feel better soon by the way Tuffers.

Looking at a study done in April 2021 by some Green Eco group M&S and Co-op rank higher than Waitrose in the Most Ethical category. Wrt most Environmentally Friendly Waitrose don't come in the top three.

Got to say the amount of packaging they have that says 'not currently recyclable' is really disappointing - if its not recyclable why use it? use something else that is. There's a whole load of biodegradable alternatives these days, so there's really no excuse.

I can't afford M&S and there's no Co-op close to me - Waitrose is a five minute walk (so that's got be good for my carbon footprint)

Hey, I'm just a working-class comp-y kid, grew up on an MoD housing estate, working since I was 17. Never had no help from no-one ever (is that a tiny violin I can hear?) Smile

Guff's the one Wink - starts out saying he's only in there for the cheese, then it turns it out he knows all the stuff only the regulars would know - the checkouts are faster, etc - you're not going to figure that out after just a couple of cheese visits. He's probaby got a loyalty card and everything. Probably even uses those handheld, pay-as-you-go till things.
