Absolutely. He might not deliver but at the very least it has to be worth a try. Unbelievable to have a creative player kicking his heels while everyone can see that’s exactly what we need.

I agree about Jacobs, he must have rubbed the Cowleys up the wrong way, there can be no other explanation.
Cutting off your nose to spite your face is not a great trait to have as a manager. There have been a number of players inexplicably left out over the years, Biley being a classic example (oh how we could do with someone like him now).

Biley and Kemp were probably my all time favourite strikers (non-premier anyway). Selling them was a terrible piece of business on each occasion (we got peanuts for Biley, and fecking John Latham for Kemp). Special mentions also for Garwood, Hateley, Whittingham, Walsh and a personal favourite of mine ... Rafferty.

What? No Svetoslav Todorov?

John Aloisi. 60 apps 26 goals. Not a bad return in a pretty average side and with the club in a spot of bother yet again.

All such great players, we are privileged to have watched them ffs. David Kemp was brilliant and what is all the more remarkable is that he scored his goals playing in a very mediocre side.

Yakubu, Micky Quinn & Pitman.

Milan Baros, Teddy Sherringham, Kanu
A different universe to the shyte we have to watch now.

If Milan Baros was still here he still wouldn’t have scored. He was marginally better than Marquis

and all all them thrived with 2 up front, usually a little and large combo.
Rafferty was a proper number nine who must have created at least as many as he scored, wiht knock downs, creating space and all that. I just wish we could get out of this fad for one up front with players who cannot do it. Playing Curtis in there is just losing his undoubted ability on the left side and cutting in to shoot.

Bailey, Rafferty, Hateley, Kemp, Whittingham, Quinn (who ate all the pies?). It makes me emotional remembering them. Oh for just one forward with half the goalscoring ability of those players.

A lovely trip down Memory Lane reading these posts
We've had some great players over the years.........bound to be more to come PUP (23-01-2022, 08:47 PM)mikey393 Wrote: Yakubu, Micky Quinn & Pitman. I forgot about Quinn, he should have been on my list. But Yakubu was more premier era even if he did play a bit of the promotion season. Pitman IMO not good enough to be mentioned in the same breath as the others on this list by the time he signed for us.

If we're talking about cold shoulder, Awford unforgivably gave the proverbial frozen butcher's joint to both David Connolly and Ricky Holmes who really could cross the ball.

Not in the class of the hall of famers already mentioned but Nicky Morgan didn't let anyone down. What we would give for someone like him now.... still remember that diving header against Derby as if it were yesterday.
24-01-2022, 11:04 PM
when was the last time you saw anyone even try for a diving header.
25-01-2022, 08:06 AM
Anyone for Ron Saunders, Nicky Morgan, Keith Blackburn and our very own Ray Hiron?

When was the last time you saw a cross that went anywhere near anyone’s head????
Hirst was probably so shocked, it was hardly surprising he missed.

Got to agree with Deep, Billy Rafferty was my all time favourite very closely followed by the Hateley. |
