In the event of a hot war with Russia or China I wonder where the nearest targets would be? The Dockyard obviously, but the chances are the fleet would have sailed or been dispersed in advance during a time of rising tension, so not much point in bombing an empty port when there are higher priority targets elsewhere.

There is some kind of communications facility on Portsdown Hill; that might be a possible target once the major nodes had been cut, but I wonder if there would be any others hereabouts?

Those of you who are particularly morbid can explore this simulator.

How about the QuinetiQ Radar Station near you at Funtington Cressage.

If that gets nuked you can say goodbye to those CEC's that you grow near there and all those Pigs that snaffle up the leftovers Big Grin

I thought that was a research centre which had all but closed.

Most of us on here had our younger lives ruined by the Cold War so I’m fvcked if I’m letting Putin ruin the end of it for me. I pretty much ignore the news and I’m sure I’ll find out pdq if anything happens.

Our under Sea communication cables, to the USA and the world. The Russians have a fleet, in the Atlantic, just outside of the Irish EEZ, about 250 miles from our western shores. They have been surveying off the UK and Irish coasts for these cables.

They've already cut Norwegian cables and they have the capability to cut ours. Not nuclear but very exposed infrastructure, which leads to GCHQ Cheltenham and Bude. These cables come ashore at Porthcurno, Sennen Cove and near Bude. Can't find the cables, destroy these land facilities.

It's not just military infrastructure which is at risk.

I grew up in the nuclear/chemical triangle of Aldermaston, Burghclere and Greenham Common. That was fun when the Doomsday clock starting ratcheting up and they began testing the sirens.

Not closed according to this Cressage - better get inside that Dalek and take a trundle up there on the pretext of checking on the CEC's

Make sure the plunger and whisk are working in case you run in to a bit of trouble  Big Grin

It makes you wonder whether people like Putin and other dictators were abused as kids. I bet he never eats a bratwurst without breaking into a cold sweat.

Not a high priority target, though.

If you want to believe that Cressage, fine.   However as most of the installation is quite probably underground it will undoubtably get "special" attention.   Tongue

Throughout history little men like Putin (Franco, Napoleon, Hitler…) have had a terrible chip on their shoulder and have had to show how strong they are. Fu King cvnts.

Pol Pot was 5' 8". But that was a good five inches taller than his average Cambodian countryman.
