A 5 year ban on all Russian teams from European competitions, kicking them totally out of FIFA, a proper Olympic ban, and total bans from all Athletic tournaments should be the next steps.

Now they need to disqualify Spartak Moscow from the Champions League, Daniil Medvedev from the TPA, the Haas F1 team, cancel the Bolshoi Ballet residence at the Royal Albert Hall, pack up the Faberge exhibition at the V&A, and any other Russian-centric event held outside of Mother Russia. Economic and cultural isolation.

And a worldwide boycott of goods manufactured in China. I know boycott's rarely work but it seems his good mate Xi is the only one big enough to tell him what a tool he's been.

...and Eurovision!

Well done sport?? you must be joking. I bet Putin is really crapping himself over that. One football club decides to stop using a Russian airline, a corrupt and hypocritical planet destroying sport cancels 1 race, and another corrupt organisation is "monitoring the situation" before they decide if they want to lose £30m worth of sponsorship, but move a game of football from one country to another just to show they've done something.

This is a return to the Soviet mentality and expansionism post WW2 so I doubt Putin could give a flying one about what the rest of the world thinks and does. Unfortunately the only message a despotic Russian leader ever understands is to stand up to his aggression such as JFK in the Cuban missile crisis. After all of his shoe banging and bragging at the UN, Khrushchev soon turned tail and fled when the US issued an ultimatum. Putin is just another in a long line of Soviet bully boys that stretch way back so I believe Biden’s vow not to help the Ukraine militarily was tantamount to a green light for what came next. Even if that’s what he thinks it was stupid to say it. Sanctions on their own won’t get a single Russian out of the Ukraine and Putin is not about to back out any time soon, if ever, unless he gets drawn into a protracted war and the body count in Moscow starts rising. He’s played his hand, regards himself as a strongman and to pull out would admit to failure and weakness. This will probably go on for years despite the tragic courage of the Ukranian troops and people which is hard to watch.

This, however is encouraging. 435 arrests in a crowd of 2000 that hardly looks troublesome. He’s lifted the lid on something that has probably been simmering for some time and will hopefully prove to be his downfall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o51Wf-Bvn0

A word for Gorbie who is going strong at 91 years old this coming Wednesday and gave the world at least a little respite from all of this bullshit.

I agree (well I usually do with you) the west is just kickin it down the road until it eventually it cannot be ignored.
We ignored the magnificently  peaceful behaviour of the people of Belarus and let putin put a puppet regime in place, the same will probably  happen in the Ukraine.
There is largely silent hatred of putin in russia, any protest is savagely put down.

Where is the next country to get the same treatment? Moldova maybe?

The west has to wake up to the reality, putin is rebuilding the imperial russia it's likely Poland will once again be the flashpoint  that ignites WW.

I ordered the expulsion of Russia from the Eurovision Song Contest over an hour ago.
25 minutes ago it was first reported that it had been done.  Cool

If you want to get unnecessarily shitty, pay attention to your spelling, grammar, spacing, proper nouns ...everything.

My neighbour's Russian. He's always polite but keeps himself to himself, not one for any small talk.  I left a steaming turd on his doorstep this afternoon in a show of solidarity with our Ukrainian cousins and i think he got the message. Now i don't think my actions are going to hold Putin back but every gesture, no matter how token, must be encouraged.

A commendable but ill-considered gesture. What if the Ivan next door slips on your faecal matter and bangs his head? The tiny Union Jack flag you planted in your humanitarian dump would be a dead giveaway and give Comrade Putin the pretext he needs to start WW3.

Hope all those wishing for Eisner to be a sugar daddy are watching the Chelsea situation. If Abramovitch decides, or is forced to, call in his loans to the club they’re down £1.5 billion and up the proverbial. The funny money plastic prem is a strange place for sure….

The loans from owners when recalled have been exactly what has sent us in to receivership every single time. At the time we were unaware that their buying of players was only a loan, now those of us with long memories know very much better.

Its a wonderful place to launder money, as has proven time and time again. Pompey, man City, Leicester, all had wonderful owners who some allege washed their money through the club.

Spot on ! We don’t want anyone like Abramovich owning us.

Imagine us having to put up with winning only 2 Champions Leagues , 2 Europa Leagues, 5 Premier leagues, 6 F A Cups and 2 Super Cups !

Do we really want to see some of the worlds best players at Fratton Park ? Really !

Chelsea have massive €1.4 Billion indebtedness although it is all to related parties (ie Abramovich and his off-shore companies), none is interest bearing, none is to Banks or similar financial institutions, none involves a charge over Chelsea’s assets.

Chelsea is currently valued at €1.9 Billion but with a competitive bidding value much, much higher (Abramovich bought it £140 Million). Since the Ukraine crisis , Abromovitch has had unsolicited approaches from many buyers anxious to deal, Bloomberg describe many interested parties as on ‘ high alert’….especially as the UK government may try to force him to sell.

Pompey would also have had to face a 2 year transfer ban for repeatedly breaching the rules surrounding academy players.

Abramovich is, rightly, also under scrutiny as a citizen of the country invading an independent neighbour (although that neighbour, Ukraine, has today asked Abromovitch to intercede on its behalf).

Nah ! I’m sure that 99% of Pompey fans feel they are better off with Eisner.

Abramovich might have been an example of th fit and proper person test not working. There’s plenty of stuff on the internet about his court conviction, alleging theft of government property and bribing govt officials and gangsters in Russia to protect his assets.

Correct the test was brought in a year after he bought the club in 2003.

So I was wrong there hands up. Maybe they should have brought it in when the PL was formed.

Yeah they probably should have, I guess they didn’t foresee the crooks that would want to get involved.

I think he's a genuine, likeable guy who wanted to move his wealth out of Russia 20 years ago about the time he bought Chelsea. He acting lawfully when buying the club who were struggling at the time. I remember their old ground with pretty bad viewing points from the terraces. He revitalised the whole club from the ground to the playing staff & the fans.

His energy & enthusiasm drove the club forward from the Dark Ken Bates era of some pretty dresadful 1st Division football to being the successful team in England. Yes, he's ruthless especially with sacking various managers for Not delivering constant success. The big difference between him & ME is he appointed the right people to run the club at all levels.

One thing for certain he wouldn't have given Jackett a contract extension he would have gone after his first promotion failure. Whether we like it Not football is a business & has to be profitable for the owners who risk their money for some returns. I'm sure it also gives back enjoyment attending games when allowed into the country. He may Not be a Saint but also Not an outright sinner!

Start from Deacon, when he ran out of cash he called in his interest free loans. Yes there was no charge on the club, until he wanted it back. It then happened again and again. Interest free loans to be repaid on demand.
This time round there are no loans, it is money invested and not recallable.

Didn’t Ken Bates redo the ground? He had a flat in the hotel overlooking the pitch.
