Fascism is on the rise, the state is becoming very authoritarian all around the world.

The Ukraine government has imprisoned the opposition and the press who appose him.

It's not right that he is being punished for Putin, it's like punishing a child for their mum or dad killing someone. It's not right and if you can't see this something is very wrong with you....

Can the Ukraine government really imprison anyone at the moment??? They’re all virtually hiding underground most of the time.

In the last 2 years small business being told to close, when large retails got to stay open.

The top 1% wealth growth over the last 2 years, and us only just starting to feel the pain we are all in for, if you have not looked at a energy deal for the coming year. I think you should.

Government pushing a private company product onto the public.

I can keep going....

Fascism = government & corporation working against YOU... you will own nothing because they will own it all.

Evening Smirnoff, I'll answer this if I may. I know how much you and everyone else love reading the long winded replies I often trawl out.

First of all Fascism is a little bit of a catch all word at the moment. The acgtual definition is "far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and the economy". It often uses, but doesn't really require a race element to it. Any focal point to centralise power will work (see religion). The definition given below by the other person of goverment and business working together is an oligarchy, although that usually ends up with business having more power and thus controlling government.

Anyway onto examples I'll give the two obvios ones I won't waffle on for too long. Russia goes without saying. The mass imprisonment of protesters speaking against the invasion of Ukraine is clear evidence. Once you start arresting people holding up some placards you're well on your way to authotarianism.

America is an interesting one. At a macro level no it definately isn't authotarian although it is most certainly a flawed democracy. Any country with a defacto 2 party system is. At a micro level however once you start to look at state level, specifically Replublican states you start to realise that whislt not necessarily fascist there is a clear desire for an Authotarian Theocracy, though I suppose that would be a form of fascism. Book burnings are a regular occurance whereby anything that "threatens" the stranglehold Christianity has on these areas is fair game.

https://time.com/6117685/book-bans-school-libraries/

https://www.theatlantic.com/culture/arch...me/620938/

1984 and Maus were also banned from schools in certain Texas districts. The irony is not lost of me with those two.

I could go on about the regression of womens reproductive rights and voter supression for certain types of voters both of which are as American as Apple pie but book burning is particularly pernicious (not that the others aren't evil). It conjours up images of the Nazis burning books. As the saying goes, "Where they burn books, they will ultimately burn people also".

Anyway I'll stop now. I'm sure you all stopped about 5 paragraphs back anyway.

PUP.

The US - a failed state and often an evil state. Very few commentators at the moment are looking back to the origins of this crisis in 1991. The west imposed it’s neoliberal economic model on a country woefully unready for it and facilitated the expropriation of the country’s wealth by a few close to Yeltsin, Abramovitch being one. Putin emerged ten years later determined to restore Russian pride and power, but not to restore the people’s stolen wealth. History repeats itself - the humiliation of Germany at Versailles in 1918 led to Hitler and the humiliation of Russia in 1991 has led to Putin.

pick n mix... Tucker Carlson!
You are aware of US District Judge Vyskocils judgement?

This was after Fox's lawyers said, 'you literally can't believe facts Tucker Carlson tells you.'

Judge Vyskolis opinion says; leaning heavily on the arguments of Fox's lawyers. The general tenor of the show should then inform a viewer that Tucker Carlson is not 'stating actual facts' about the topics he discusses and instead engaging in 'exaggeration' and 'non-literal commentary'...... any reasonable viewer arrives with an appropriate amount of sceptism about the statements he makes.

As a reasonable person I'll not bother viewing any further!

You seem lost and confused x

Ravo, nice to hear from you, been a while. All explained by yourself in an exemplary fashion. I despise the loose use of the word “facist”, false use negates the validity of the word when a real facist emerges.

Interesting to read that many of Chelsea's millionaire footballers are "fearful" for their future.  Just how fearful would they be had they just watched their house get bombed to smithereens while their wife and kids were packed on a train to god knows where?
If they want my sympathy I would suggest not turning up to for the next game and telling Abramovich, in a  joint press conference, with the Ukrainian flag as a backdrop, that  he can shove his football club up his Gary.

Well Barclays have suspended Chelsea’s bank account - it’ll probably be all smoothed over somehow, there’s loads of chelsea supporters in the tory party upper eschelons - but I forget how many weeks players can go unpaid until their contracts become null and void.

Guilt by association

Captain One Side, had a meetings(more then one Wink ) with Russian oligarchs, 'freeze his bank account' and put him in front of the firing squad. He is one step away from Putin.

Tufnell_Chimes
"I had meetings with a few oligarchs between about 2005 and 2009 - maybe not Top100 - more at the Top450-700 level, I don't think any of them had $500m superyachts, but they had money and bodyguards and villas in Tuscany and all that. Most of them had pretty humble beginnings and they were just well placed when the Soviet Union collapsed. Although there was one meeting when the translator I was with said as we were leaving "don't look back, if they find we are working for rival, they will kill us and leave us in ditches"."

Hey, Essix.

What's Trump's opinion of Vladimir Putin? I reckon you're the go-to mush to give us all the info, no?

Don't hold back now.......and don't put up loads of useless links. Let's hear it, nipper.

I will answer that for you billy, Trump is best placed to influence putin, a bloody good starting point.

Two egotists who at least understand each other.

Putin has screwed up incredibly and he knows it and now i shall repeat the wisest words regarding negotiations i ever heard, "always give the other guy a way our"

I think Trump is possibly the only person on this planet who could manage that feat with putin,

Yep, genuine meetings rather than being informed by internet drivel promoted by Right Said Fred. johnson's had direct meetings with Putin, so by your reckoning, I think that puts him ahead of lil' ol' me in the queue for the firing squad.

Trump's solution is to paint the flag of CHAINYA on F-16s and bomb the hell out of Moscow, or so he says. If Trump was still in charge, the US would be standing with Belarussia, China and North Korea - he loves that dictatorship-schtick.

Regarding the 'way out', they've been giving him numerous 'off-ramps' (as the modern parlence, apparently has it) and he's snubbed them all. More interested in lording it up over a charred deadscape.

I did actually see Putin once. We were walking out of the centre towards the war memorial about two miles up this really busy, really straight, really wide 8-lane road. And then noticed that there wasn't any traffic - none at all, in either direction. It was totally empty for about five minutes until a lone police car with its siren going, driving down the very centre. Then another long gap, then six more police cars together.

And then there were nine black AMG G-class Mercs doing about a ton in a V-formation, and behind them right in the middle of the V was Putin in a stretch Maybach. Then about a million more police cars (Blues Brothers style), then all quiet, and then the traffic started again.
