Surprisingly he is seen as a strong leader by the Ukraine and USA for his dealings with the putin crisis. Few would dispute that.

His majority in the house ensures he will hang on to his position for the foreseeable future.

So it seems an impossible impasse or does it?

Could a post effectively a minister with sole responsibility for Ukrainian affairs for the duration of the war be created for him on condition he resigns the PM rolle thus utilising his genuine talents and remove his overall power. A clause to be inserted banning and re election to pm.

Consider where we have been with past Prime ministers - NONE of them 100% perfect.

For example we experienced a labour PM promoting lies when taking us into an unethical war; and a quiet (grey) man discredited for his dalliance with female colleagues.

What would the opposition, and the BBC be saying if Winston Churchill was PM today? No doubt Criticizing him for drinking Whisky before breakfast ?

How about we forget about trivia until after all the massive problems facing the country have been addressed?

In the scheme of things, the prime minister having some cake and booze is of no consequence. A large number of the people making a song and dance about this will also have breached the covid restrictions, so the whiff of hypocrisy is strong. 

It’s scandalous that our parliament is wasting so much time on this. The Jock police quickly  ‘spoke to’ Nicola Sturgeon about breaching her own mask rules and didn’t take months investigating the issue. The Jock press didn’t make a big thing about it and she can continue mis governing Jockistan.

If the PM is a clown he will be voted out of power at the next election or removed by his party.

I think a great many would dispute that. The entire international community, with a couple of notable exceptions, has rightly condemned Putin and many countries have sent arms and aid. Ramping up the bellicose rhetoric and popping over to Kyiv for a staged walkabout and photo op doesn't make you a strong leader.
On the contrary we have seen  procrastination and dithering in freezing Oligarchs ill-gotten gains and a farcical visa system introduced as a way of insuring that as few Ukrainians reach these shores as possible. And those luckily enough to make it over will probably be enjoying Rwandan coffee before too long.

Johnson was always going to be a disaster, the evidence was all out there and just some basic due dilligence would have told you all you need to know about the man. But as SUF rightly says, you reap what you sow.

The issue is not cake and booze. It is misleading or lying to the House that is the issue. If we accept this it is the thin edge of the wedge. If you lie or mislead Parliament you have to go, if you do not what accountability is there. Without accountability the democratic machine breaks down.

It's really very serious when an elected member of parliament lies in the House of Commons and that's why it's always contentious when someone calls someone else a liar in the chamber and generally has to withdraw the comment or risk a ban from the chamber for a period of time. The whole Owen Paterson affair when the government tried to change the rules to protect one of their own caused a huge stink and was rightly defeated.

One thing that always stuck in my mind from when I studied law as part of my business degree was the phrase "Ignorance of the law is no excuse". This is the premise that you cannot simply use as a defence in court that you did not know what you were doing was a criminal offence. This doubles down when you are the one who passed the law in the first place.

If Johnson is allowed to get away with this minor bit of lawbreaking whilst being a lawmaker then what does he get away with next? You simply cannot have a Prime Minister who feels it's fine to break the law, whether he says knew about it or not, and in this case as he told the whole country what the rules are it's absurd to think that he did not know what he was doing was wrong. He simply has to go but lacks the decency and honour to do so. The man is a coward.

As for the ‘heavyweight’ and ‘old’ I have to hold my hands up to those, but there was no actual shouting or frothing on this occasion, though there have been times…..
