Being old, I was bought up watching cricket in the summer, Pompey in the winter.
Handily, we can now watch every ball of Hampshire's 4 day cricket free on YouTube.
Not the same as popping down the United Services to watch Malcolm Marshall murdering batsmen but pretty good for free!

Could be a good summer as they look good bets to win the thing!

I used to wander by the ground to and from college in those days and hear the click of ball on stumps as MM strutted his stuff. Happy days.

Richards, Greenidge, Turner, Jesty, Marshall, Sainsbury, Taylor, Stephenson, Herman, Mottram and was it Rice or O'Sullivan to complete the team, when I saw Hampshire win the Championship back in 73? NB it was Roy not Malcolm back then.

It will be interesting to see the England captaincy position situation play out.

I'm not in favour of Stokes getting the gig, he's vice captain under Root so probably part to blame for the many blunders made b Root (fine players though they are
I lean toward a county captain who is experienced and can bat a bit our own Lames Vince Being a prime example. A Mike Brearly type if you will.
The subject came up during commentary of Hants win today and apparently has been raised around cricket circles ITK.

What sat the TBA brains trust?

Oh for just the County Championship, John Player League and Test matches. Nowdays it is difficult to follow what is happening, and for the majority of the season all your better players are away on some sort of International duties.

That is why I swing the golf clubs these days - fresh air & exercise, plenty of banter & interesting conversation and the 19th hole at the end to look forward to ....perfect.

Indeed so.

I haven’t watched or identified with Hampshire cricket since they stopped it.

I couldn’t name one Hampshire player now and don’t know how they are doing.

Zero interest as far as I’m concerned.

Each to their own f course.

Totally agree Ex I think they have divorced many in this part of Hampshire from the will and desire to travel to watch Hampshire .

Reasons ? ... don't really know but the Hampshire match at Portsmouth united the support.- Shame !

It was and is a shame they stopped coming to Portsmouth.

Having said that there are far worse ways to spend a summer's evening than sitting at the Rose Bowl. I used to be able to take school groups when the 2020 started at 5:30 allowing us to get them back to school at a late but reasonable hour. I was lucky enough to take them to watch Shane Warne (and Watson)
Talking captains it was fascinating watching Warne captain the side. Even in 2020 he started with a slip as it took wickets and also stopped edged fours.
After watching Warne live, that team ended up with 3 leg spinners and a chinaman (left arm leg spin!) bowling in every game.

More recently, I spent a very lovely summer's day on a paid for hospitality VIP day catching up with my brothers who I don't see very often. Great value by the time you factored in parking, sit anywhere tickets, arrival food and drink, lunch and afternoon tea all included. All with a background of proper cricket.
