Maybe we're at the precipice of something bigger. As Michael Gove said "I think people in this country have had enough of experts" - maybe we're at a point similar to the fall of Rome, or about to enter a Cambodian-style Year Zero - a descent into universal idiocy for a few hundred years. Maybe actual geographical facts aren't enough, they are not exciting enough and they don't have a powerful lobby group behind them to give them the authority that facts used to have. Or maybe now thanks to the beauty of the internet we all have facts at our fingertips, and that doesn't suit those that used to enjoy knowing stuff that other didn't - where's the personal power in knowing what everyone knows?
