None are worth the paper they're written on. Promise the earth then shaft us.
Manifesto statements should be realistic enough to be legally binding,if not don't put it in there

All manifestos are complete fiction. Even if the party concerned actually wants to implement all the things they promise, they often have trouble getting them through parliament. The party system doesn’t work because no one party fits the bill for anyone, you might agree with some of the policies from all the parties but you never agree with all the policies of one party.

It would be far better if each constituency elected a representative who broadly outlines their views to the electorate, they could then go to parliament and it could actually do its job by thoroughly debating all the issues and acting in the best interests of the country, not the party.

Sadly that is a pipe dream but it would be thoroughly refreshing.

If the Tories implemented the Labour manifesto, Labour would be pull it apart saying how bad it is and want the exact opposite.

Having an Opposition is completely wrong, it’s not a game, they should be working for the good of the country.  Unfortunately they are all out for themselves.  Opposing the government for the sake of opposing them isn’t for the good of the country.

How good would it be to see a government say the opposition has a good idea and run with it?

Our political elite control every aspect of our lives and yet I’d wager that the average voter has never read a manifesto. They put more thought and research into buying a car than they do before putting a cross in a box. As a nation we rarely stand up and challenge them, all in all, we get what we deserve.

As the OP says, what’s the point in reading a manifesto? They go in the bin once voting has finished.

Because when they renege on promises held in manifestos. We are supposed to get angry and challenge them on the lies and non delivery of promises. That we don’t is our fault and gives them the green light to carry on short changing us.

Are we going to overthrow them?

Overthrow? No, we have our system to prevent the turmoil that comes with “overthrowing” those in charge. That said, it wouldn’t hurt to hang a few every few years to remind them that it can still go wrong!
